DH vs. Double stroller

I like to think that I have an amazing husband. He works his butt off so I can stay home, he is understanding that to the fact that being a SAHM is in fact hard, especially now being pregnant. He comes home everyday from work and takes over so that I can have a break for a few minutes and be by myself. But for the love of god, I need a "winner" to our constant argument. He is 100% convinced that I will not need a double stroller. My son, Silas, will be 21 months when the new babe arrives. How will I do anything? Yes, Silas can walk...but does he listen? NO. His argument is that when WE go places, we can each use a stroller since we have two already. My argument is, what about when I am alone, like I am for 10 hours a day? I don't want to ever be in a situation where I need to leave a newborn to go chase after my one year old running in a parking lot, (or anywhere). Kids run, and they don't always listen (if you have a perfect child, then go you). I would totally understand if Silas was a few years older not getting one, but two under 2??? Maybe I am being irrational because I've never had two kids before but be honest with me ladies, who is right and who is wrong?

Re: DH vs. Double stroller

  • I don't have two but I'll be in the two under two club in January with you sister...we were given by a very generous person their absolutely gorgeous double running stroller. I think it will be necessary for walks etc. as for a store I plan on putting my then two year old in the carriage and wearing the nb.

  • If I were in your situation I would want a double stroller too
  • @lazydaisy22‌ we go on lots of walks. It seems to me that DH is over estimating Silas' willingness and ability to walk long periods of time. I'm going to try to use your arguments though lol.

  • Maybe his thoughts somehow are you can wear your second and push the first in a current stroller?

Baby-wearing can get really tiring, though, at least it did for me.

Idk.  I'm still working on trying to find one I like, that fits in my tiny trunk, and that my husband is ok with pricewise...  So far he hasn't budged that a specific stroller is cheaper than buying a new car... haha.  Good luck.  Kids with a tendency to run and not listen are not fun in parking lots.

  • My first were only a year and a half apart. We used our double every time I took the kids for a walk in the park. Otherwise, I had my youngest strapped to me or friends around to help corral the kids and keep them in the play area. We got lucky and were handed down a nice double stroller and later given another one that we used as a back up. I don't know that I would have paid the $200 plus one, but we didn't go on that many walks either. We also lived where everyone drives everywhere. If you live in a place where people walk a lot, it's probably worth the extra money.
  • I plan to baby wear a lot, but I still bought a double stroller. Maybe start looking/comparing different strollers, I know my DH can usually be convinced of something if/when I find a great deal. Good luck!

  • I'm having the same problem. DS will be 22 mo in Jan and a double stroller is starting to look good. I was looking at sit n stands but I think DS might be a little young for that. I've been checking craigslist and amazon for deals lately.

  • You either NEED  a double stroller or you will need to wear your baby. My middle child was 2 when my 3rd was born, she's pretty tame but still had no sense of danger. If you're alone with 2 kids 2 and under, a double stroller is invaluable. I have a double, but with 4 kids in January I'll probably be wearing baby and holding hands with my 3rd or pushing her in the stroller and she'll be 3. I have to have my hands free to be able to catch them/guide them/etc.
  • I would definitely want one in your shoes. Can you look for a used one at a consignment store? Maybe it's the cost that he's worried about?

  • I would suggest trying to use a single + wear the newborn.  But I am VERY anti-double-stroller.  OMG I can't imagine walking on narrow sidewalks or trying to get that beast out the front door or into the trunk of my car alone.  Our single jogger is heavy enough!!! (27lb)
  • Thanks ladies! I will definitely be getting a double. I know I don't want a side by side one. I am also planning on trying to "baby wear". I didn't do this a all the first time around, as I could find a comfortable sling and I really couldn't afford to keep trying new ones. Thanks again for all of your insight!

  • My son hardly ever used his stroller once he turned 2 (maybe six times in the last year and he turns 3 in October, and my husband was the one who wanted it, I wouldn't have used it.) I would see a double stroller as a waste of money with our lifestyle.

We walk a lot, but he stays close and we live in a quiet community.
  • OP, I have no advice, but I LOVE THE NAME SILAS!
  • My son will be 4 but still loves to ride in the stroller especially when we go to places like the zoo or long walks. We have a double we got a few years ago when ds was born and I was watching my niece and nephew they were 20 months and 4 at the time it was awesome to have when we had all 3 kids.

  • I freaking love my double stroller. I still use it and my younger two are 2 and nearly 4. I wore the baby a lot but I also used the double stroller a lot. I like having options. Also taking two strollers when you go somewhere as a family is kind of a pain. A double takes up less space in the vehicle, leaves one of you hands-free to pay for things or what have you, and it's easier to watch both kids if one spouse has to go to the bathroom or something. Especially if one kid is a runner (my DD2 is), a double stroller is so, so worth it.

  • I'm still debating about a sit n stand. Dd will be 2 months shy of 3 when lo arrives. She does pretty well listening but she has her moments.

  • DS will be 25 months when this baby comes, and I'm still trying to decide if we need a double stroller. DH thinks no. He also thinks no to the idea of 2 cribs. DS does not do well at walking and holding my hand, walking nicely by my side, or tolerating a baby leash. I am going to try single stroller for DS + the new baby in a baby carrier, but if that doesn't work, I'll find a used double and convince DH that it's a small price to pay for my sanity.
  • My son is 27 months and it's still hard to walk with him hand in hand. If you can't baby wear plus stroller, the only safe option is a double stroller imho.
  • also, my siggy:

  • @ExcitedMama2‌ yes I love it! @rachel+family‌ thank you! We picked it out when we first moved in together 8 years ago, and now everyone asks if we named him after the guy from Duck Dynasty lol.
