I was reading one of my pg books and had completely forgotten about Hep B. I know it's fairly common now around here for babies to get their first round of Hep B while they are still in the hospital. I'm not sure how I feel about this, I lean with waiting until the first set of shots at 8weeks. Does anybody have any recommendations on this or knowledge to pass on? Is this fairly standard everywhere now?

Re: Vaccines - not a debate thread.
Pediatrician said if the mother has a negative Hep B blood test before labor, it is not needed nor recommended. The only shot we are getting at the hospital is vitamin K.
I don't have Hep-B, and LO isn't going to be having sex or sharing drug needles, so I felt better delaying it until we started the other vaccines a couple months later.
I just feel like being born and immediately giving a vaccine is a lot for a little body to go through all at once. (We did get the Vitamin K shot at birth.)

I am still not a fan of vaccination at birth as there is still little risk of transmission that young but as a nurse I couldn't let misinformed decisions be made. Just because lo isn't having sex doesn't mean they can't get it.
We'll probably start the Hep B when we start the other rounds of shots.
I honestly have no idea. I should ask my doctor on Thursday and make it clear about what I want. I super pro vac but I don't think a newborn needs something quite that early.
