Baby Names

Why dh? WHy?

Dh and I have been having a lot of trouble coming up with boys names. He suggested Lincoln (I like it, but I'm afraid of NNs like "stinking Lincoln" or something like that), then he suggested Tyson. I liked it a lot. So, after a little bit of discussion, we decided to go with Tyson James so we could call him TJ.
It was settled, we both agreed it was a nice name but we weren't going to share it since we didn't want anyone's negative opinion. Weeeelllll.....that dumbie, decides to tell everyone at his impromptu class reunion. He comes home to tell me that no one liked Tyson, everyone liked Lincoln. He also said his best friend despises the name tyson and would refuse to address our son! ugghhh....so now we are back to the drawing board.

Originally I had suggested Kevin (my dads name) John (my grandfathers name) and we could NN KJ...but DH doesnt like kevin but would go with Kelvin!
okay, strangers...what do you think?

  • You don't have to go back to the drawing board. When Tyson James is the name you both love, you should still go with it (and his best friend refusing to address him as Tyson is plain chilldish and should be no reason to start over. He didn't make the baby, so he doesn't get a say). That being said, I don't like Tyson. All I can think of is Mike Tyson and that it fits right in with the last name as first name trend. Kevin is NMS, nor is Kelvin. I like Calvin (it's the spelling of Kelvin that I dislike) and Lincoln (I love Abraham). I love James and John. How about: Tyler, Tobias, Timothy, Caleb or Cedric?

  • Stick with your name. His best friend will grow up and come around and address the baby. the people in his class don't get to name your baby.

  • I think nn kj etc are stupid, personally.pick a name where you would like the actual name and call them that.

  • Kelvin would make me think that the parents were chemistry nerds trying to be cool. I'd steer clear. Use the name you both agree on. Not everyone is going to like it. That's just the way it works. But if the two of you are happy with a name, use it.

I think your husband and his friend sound immature.

I like Kevin and John. Also like Calvin John/James (CJ is another double-initial NN, which you seem to like.) Not a fan of Kelvin.
  • I agree with the other responses. I don't see Stinkin Lincoln as being an issue. Lincoln is a great name! I don't love Tyson.
  • Tyson is NMS. I love Lincoln.

  • It might be a good opportunity to go back to the drawing board, to see if you both can come up with new ideas that you both like (not Kelvin). If after a couple of days, you still have nothing, stick w what you love. Fuck the class reunion ppl, how often will you see those guys?? MAYBE every 10 yrs?

  • I detest Lincoln. tyson makes me think of Mike or chicken.

    How about Calvin?

  • DS is Lincoln. Sometimes family members call him Stinky Linky, but he's still in diapers. I assume when he's older he'll shower and it won't be an issue. I like it more than your other choices, although I personally wouldn't give much weight to my HS classmates' opinions.

  • Lincoln all the way. The little guy i know called that goes by linc no other nn's
  • Myson just made me lol so loud I woke up the baby, ha ha. And it's so funny I'm not even mad. :)
I agree that you shouldn't feel pressured by your friends. Tyson's not my style, but it isn't awful. I really dislike Kelvin and Lincoln, and Kevin just sounds weak to me.
I adore Calvin, but you and your dh have to go with your own taste/instincts. Calvin John would be nice.
  • I've known great guys named Tyson and Lincoln. I like either of those over Kevin. Kelvin is, IMOP, a nightmare of a name. I could never take a Kelvin seriously as an adult. Calvin, however, is adorable.
  • I grew up with a Lincoln and he was never teased. We called him Linc. Strong name IMO.

Kelvin is a unit of temperature and should not even remotely be a possibility for a child's name.
