Nut-free lunchroom

Pardon my dumb question-- I know peanut butter is out but what about Nutella?

Re: Nut-free lunchroom

  • Nutella has hazelnuts, so I guess it depends on whether it's a "nut-free" lunchroom or just "peanut-free." If it's totally nut-free then, yes, Nutella would be out. We use Sunbutter, and that's what our school serves, too.

  • We're not nut-free, but here's a question for those whose schools are: is coconut also banned? It's not a traditional nut, but I do know some nut-free kids who have to avoid that, too.

  • We are not a nut free school, but there are nut free tables in the lunchroom.  You are not allowed to eat anything with coconut if you are at that table.

  • Yes, hazelnuts are a tree nut so they'd be out too.

Coconuts are sometimes but not usually included; I would ask about those. One of my boys is allergic to tree nuts but we were not told to avoid coconuts.

  • I stuck with sunbutter (sunflower) and soy butter. It varies from yr to yr in my school depending on who is in his class.
