Trouble TTC

Getting healthy need tips!

Anyone have any good exercises for the big girl? I am really working on losing some more weight, I have some trouble with the treadmill after about 20 min I am just whooped! I will take a break and go back for another round but I need some other ideas to mix it up! Its easier for me to do something indoors (since its usually dark once I get home from work when I have more energy to work out) and something not high impact (dont want to disturb my rents the floor below me) Sit ups are just impossible I have tried forever to do them (I am pretty much all belly). I havent ever tried yoga either (willing to if you have suggestions though!) Thanks ladies I really appreciate it in advance =)

Re: Getting healthy need tips!

  • I lost 30 pounds a few years ago doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred for three months.  In addition to doing the workouts (which are only 20 minutes but will seriously work you out) I would jog or walk at night.  Similar to EastBayBride I started out running with walking breaks and eventually built up to running half marathons.  Check out Runner's World for a beginner runner training plan that will have you running 3 miles after 30 days.

Don't forget to eat right as well!  When I started walking and "Shredding" I also cut out all sodas and started only drinking water.  I cut back red meat to once a week at most and started eating a lot of chicken, turkey, and fish.  You can absolutely treat yourself periodically but for the most part you should try to eat as little fast food and processed food as possible.  I can't stop eating cake or maybe I'd have lost the other 20 pounds I wanted to lose in addition to the 30.
    :P

  • A lot of experts say that interval training is really the best for weight loss - so go as hard as you can on a treadmill or running for as 1-3 minutes than walk as a rest for a few minutes until you feel you can sustain a burst for another 1-3 minutes.

I do hot yoga and enjoy that - I like activities where I work up a sweat so regular yoga didn't do it for me.  It wasn't for me personally, but I know a lot of people who swear by zumba, and there a lot of at home videos for that.

If you're interested in some diet tricks, my husband and I have been on a green smoothie thing for almost 3 months.  I make smoothies with just greens (spinach, kale, lettuce) and frozen fruit that we drink for breakfast and lunch most week days.  I actually find them filling (especially with a vegetable protein powder thrown in) and tasty!  I'd be happy to share some specific recipes if you're interested.

Do you work in a tall building?  Every time I use the bathroom, I take the steps to the top and back down.  Sometimes, that's a whole lot of steps in one day.  But it really gets my heart pumping.

I just try to sneak some stuff into my regular day.
