Infertility

Newbie to IVF

My hubby and I have been TTC for 12+ months and I am over 35, after visiting fertility clinic we decided IVF was best option.

Started BCP mid July

Baseline Ultrasound July 29

Lupron 20iu 2x a day on Aug 2

Cocktail (Lupron, Gonal-f, Menopur) Aug 4

I had 9 large follicles through the process, which gave me 8 eggs on day of retrieval. We are on day 4 of incubation, 5 of those fertilized...RE said they look fantastic...and I am scheduled for ET Tuesday.

Right now, I have high levels of anxiety and exhaustion just thinking about the what ifs. I am cautiously optimistic after reading lots of boards that we could get lucky on the first cycle. I am also stuffed up with progesterone tablets (3x a day)...I opted for the tablets instead of shots because I needed a break from needles.

Just looking for some positive thoughts and mojo from the people going through the same process here...my DH is so clueless, even after sitting through meetings and the class. I am not sure all the process has really registered for him yet and I am trying not to lose my cool for fear of hearing the "crazy" or "neurotic" looks because he knows I am on all kinds of meds. How do you get them to understand?

Re: Newbie to IVF

  • Welcome!

And here I am thinking my DH was the only clueless one. :)

I did a picture tutorial for H. Very basic, this is an ovary, this is a uterus and tied the pics to the different meds. Did he truly get it? Maybe not all the way, but he at least has the fundamentals down.

Understanding my roller coaster like emotions is another beast entirely. I actually did lose my cool with him a few days ago and now I totally regret it. The clueless thing is his reaction to feeling overwhelmed and I get that now.

Much luck in your journey. The most important thing is that he supports you fully, even if his knowledge base is not where you want it to be.
  • Just want to say, welcome and good luck!

I know it's a scary and stressful situation :) but remember to breath.

It's great that you're embryos are doing well :)

good luck for Tuesday :) and hoping we hear some very happy news about a BFP soon!

  • Thanks, he is very supportive and inquisitive...I have to remember he is a man and not used to so much maintenance monthly like we are just in general. I just keep to the scientific part, which he seems to get.

    Appreciate the positive feedback!

  • Welcome! I've only done one IVF so far, but I too felt totally overwhelmed by the what ifs. I know it's easier said than done, but don't let the rumination dominate your brain. Find a good mind-body program or something positive to tune into (there are tons of online affirmation/hypnosis/relaxation programs)  and it will be much easier to tolerate. Your odds sound positive! Best of luck!
