Memphis?

We may be moving to Memphis- anyone in or around or know of the area? My husband was offered a job there. Google tells me some areas are VERY bad. We are taking a 12 hour road trip with LO to check it out next week. Twelve.hours. Yikes. Any advice on Memphis appreciated, same with staying same on long car trips with not yet four month olds!
