Baby Names

Middle Name?

My husband and I have VERY different taste and often disagree on things.  But we have (Finally) agreed on a first name for our soon-to-arrive second son: Rockford, Rocky for short.  We have a one-syllable, very common last name.
For the middle name, I prefer Alden (husband's middle name).  I like the cadence, I like the two syllables, I  like how it sounds.
He likes Lee (his father's middle name), which gives the baby the same initials as husband's dad, and is a bit of a nod to Virginia, where husband grew up.
We now live in the north (where I am from).  For clarification purposes, his dad is still very much alive, so it's not like a tribute to someone who has passed... I think Rockford Lee sounds a little too country, a little too redneck for our family.  He doesn't love Alden, and it's not REALLY a tribute to his side of the family, since it was sort of an arbitrary middle name choice for him.  Whereas Lee has a direct family connection.  My first son's middle name is very much a family tribute to my side, and it was our agreement that baby number two would have a family tribute for his side.
So.  Whaddya think: Rockford Alden or Rockford Lee?

I think Rockford Alden sounds better, and if it's your hubby's middle name then it's still technically a family name

    Or use both...Rockford Alden Lee
  • I like the suggestion of doing Rockford Alden Lee. But if it's between the two and you're last name has just 1 syllable, I think Alden would sound better.
  • Rockford Lee; it has more significance for your husband.

  • Significance is most important in my opinion. It sounds like your husband prefers to honor his family by using Lee so I'd go with that although I do agree that Alden sounds better.

I live in WI and I think of Rockford as the "Screw City"..I guess nuts/bolts were made there. That or the fact that Rockford is nationally top 10 for high crime rates.

I like Alden better, but since you had a deal about name #2 honoring his side, and he really prefers Lee and it has more significance, I think that's your winner.

  • Thanks for the feedback everyone.  We live in Massachusetts and Rockford isn't intended as a tribute to any person or place.  We both just like it and are happy with it.  I will likely give in and go with Lee, I suppose.  We may still go with both, but I think it's weird to give one kid two middle names when the other one only has one... if that makes sense.

But I appreciate all the input!
