Baby Names

NN question

We are expecting a little boy in December.  We are having a heck of a time coming up with a name.  Middle name will most likely be Daniel after DHs father.  One name we like is Zachary.  I am assuming at some point people will call him Zack.  I like Zack, but my BILs dogs name is Zak.  Would that bother you? I worked in a vet clinic so I have always had a hard time with names that I have heard used on an animal.

  • I think that it is fine. If you don't want people to call the baby Zach then correct them. I know plenty of kids these days that go by full names that are usually shortened. It isn't a big deal.

  • My experience has been that people will call kids what their parents call them.  Unless the kid tells the teacher they want to go by something else (that happened to a friend of mine who's son's teacher emailed home talking about Jake when she had always called him Jacob).  DH and I are considering a name that my grandma's dog had when I was little, and it doesn't bother me.

  • Thanks ladies. We were talking about names with my BIL and SIL tonight and mentioned liking Zachary. They said they would re name their dog if we were concerned :-P

  • Zachary is a great name, if you're around BIL and the pup you could always call him Z.
