Post baby issues...hormonal or something else?

Ok wise ladies and gents of parenting, I'm having some major issues in the last 8 weeks and need some advice. Basically my symptoms are the following: massive irritation at everything, irrational mood swings, constant hunger, rapid weight gain despite not giving into constant cravings, acne, very heavy periods, and changes in my skin texture and hair. This began when I got my first real post partum period and has continued. I also got a Mirena inserted about 6 weeks ago and DS2 has really, really lost interest in nursing and we have 2 very short sessions at this point. I went to my doctor and she ran a standard metabolic screening and checked blood sugar and everything was normal. What the fuck is wrong with me? Sorry...on mobile.

  • I might be totally off base here, but sometimes your hormones can get so out of whack with pregnancy that they can effect your thyroid and wreak havoc.
I'm not a health professional in the least, but if you go for testing, you have to ask for a whole screening b/c sometimes thyroid problems don't show up on a standard hormone check.
    Feel better!

  • Thanks ladies. My DH says that my behavior is completely out of character the last few weeks and that it's like I hate him. I have been feeling crazy and annoyed at every.little.thing. My doctor said my thyroid levels were fine but maybe she needs to dig deeper. The only thing that came up was mild vitamin d deficiency but I doubt that is it.

  • This sounds a lot like me after DD2 was born. I was angry and annoyed at everything and everyone. I once yelled at DH because he left his home office to pee ("must be nice" oops). I bled constantly too.

Doc decided it wasn't ppd but was likely related to my IUD. She ended up putting me on the pill on top of the mirena (didn't impact breast feeding but said it could have).

It fixed everything. I was a much nicer person after that and no more bleeding at all. No periods! I only did that for 6 - 8 months. When I went off the pill at that point it was fine and I still don't get a period at all.

Worth a trip to the doc for sure.
