NTTCR: Did anyone else on Long Island flood!!!!

I'm just besides myself. We got through Irene and Sandy without any water in the house. Now today we have this crap storm come through and my basement is underwater. I was up to my ankles.
My husband is at work in Brooklyn ( 1 1/2 hours away) and I spent 3 hours sucking water up with a shop vac. My back is now out and all my stuff is ruined. Only half the things down there were in plastic totes. I don't want to even look down there to see what I have to get rid of.

I'm just overwhelmed right now. I'm here with the kids and can't do anything. This just sucks.

I am so sorry. That is awful. I hope you didn't lose a lot of stuff with family memories and sentimental items. For you to have to deal with that on your own just breaks my heart.

I'm so sorry.  Detroit area ,where I am, received 6 inches of rain. Flooding everywhere on Monday, closing the freeways even still today. We had some water but not full flooding as many others around us did.  

A few years ago we had a pipe burst while we were away and many irreplaceable things ruined. It's very overwhelming. I totally feel for you.

I'm sorry that sucks...same as @kindershlitz, major flooding in Metro Detroit. I just had new gutters installed that morning. If I hadn't, I'm sure my basement would be flooded too.

Although we didnt get any floods in the house my heart goes out to you @hooligans4‌. Its like we can't catch a break out here on the Island.

My morning commute was awful Southern state expressway Sagitkos parkway were all flooded. I had a lot of detours. A 20-25 commute took me 1 hr & 20 minutes. But I made it safely

My heart hurts. We had my sons crib down there and water soaked into the wood. My husband asked what we should do with it and I said to through it out. So he frowns and said he was hoping we could have used it again. So he hugs me and said this ALL stinks. I agreed and have been sadder since.

Thank you @Davie813 for asking. I am doing better.
DH keep telling it isn't that bad and I'm trying to believe him.
I think it sunk in that we might not get out #3 so he was mushy last night and even initiated sex. That is very unlike him. Organisms make everything better.
I will empty more out tonight and assess the damage

I'm glad you're doing better, and hope DH is right and the damage isn't that bad. It sounds like he's being pretty great about it all-very sweet! Hugs to you guys!

@hooligans4 We were unscathed but my brother's basement flooded in Holbrook. I'm so sorry it hit you. That was crazy. After being flooded from Sandy, I had such anxiety seeing all the flooding that was happening. If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. If you need anything replaced I can see what I have that we no longer use.

I'm so glad you made it through ok @MelissaMiso. I was worried about you because I know you are by the water. But it seams islip got hit the hardest.
Started really clearing stuff out today and it is better than I thought. I think because I sucked the water out in a few hours it didn't have time to soak up too high. All my Christmas stuff was ok. That is what I was most afraid of being ruined.
I still have half to get through but it's nothing unreplaceable.
I thank you for your offer but we will be ok.
