Lansinoh Soothies

For those of you who have been, have used, or are going to use these while BFing, how many packages did you get?

I was kicking around picking up 4 boxes of them, but thought that might be overkill.

I picked up the lanolin cream already, but thought I should get the gel soothies too.

So, 1 box?  2?  4?

HELP!!!

  • I look forward to this. I also got these, but just one box so far, so I'm curious what mothers that use them say.

  • I got two, because it was buy one get one 50% off. I've heard they are amazing. I figure if I don't use the second box I can save it for #2 or give it to a preggo friend.

  • I don't want to send DH out to pick them up if I find I need more (he'll crap his pants at the price tag...big baby!), so I was like "Well, 4 boxes, if they really DO last for the full 72 hours would give me 12 days.  But, will I really NEED them for 12 days if I have the lanolin?  And, do they REALLLLLLY last for 72 hours, or is that complete bull-crappy?"

I ALMOST picked them up at BRU was doing their sale last week, but, the gift card I have is to Target, so was like "Meh, I'll just grab them at Target."  Should have grabbed them at BRU instead.  Ugh.

  • I was looking at these yesterday at the store. It says they are good for reusing for 72 hours? Is that true? I've heard nothing but good things about them but I don't want to have to invest in a ton of them if they will last longer.

  • DD hades 1 from the hospital and 3 wasbba nubs. I also have one pack of gumdrops (as me as soon hie just without being round.

I also snagged the Lasinoh Therapearl 3-in-1 thingy too.  Anyone tried or used it?  Figured, what the heck, couldn't hurt to have on hand.  SOUNDS awesome.  Guess I'll find out.

I'm hoping to make one last run to Target tonight, wipe out that registry, and THEN I'm done shopping (excluding diaper supplies, etc), so hoping to figure out how many of these soothies I might need.

  • Now I'm wondering what I actually have at home. I've heard of all these things, the pads, 3-in-1 stuff, thera packs, but now I'm wondering what the difference is and what I have. Definitely going home to find out, and now I'm probably going to invest in some of all of them!

  • Perfect!  Just what I needed to know!

    Thanks @ bekahblaze!!!

  • Therapearls helped get me through engorgment while pumping...it felt so much better. Wubb nubs are a little easier for LO right now since she can hold the animal. I figured I'd expand on my last post since i was 1/2 asleep

  • I bought 3 boxes, they were on 50% off clearance at cvs (not sure why). I just bought them hearing they were good but really don't know anything about them. Could someone tell me about using them? Also, my MIL said I should already be using lanolin even though the baby isn't here yet. Anyone heard of this?

  • Just an FYI, my hospital gave me some and they cut them in half since most people's nipples aren't that huge. So if you do that they'll last twice as long. ;)

  • FTM here... I bought two of the lansinoh gel therapy packs that way one pack stays in the freezer while one pack stays out for microwaving anytime. They're $14 at Target so not too bad. I gotta say I LOVE these. I follow the advice from my hospital's BFing guide which says use cold right after a feed to reduce swelling and comfort any burning, and use hot right before a feed to relieve tightness and soften tissue for optimal let down.

I have used disposable cloth, washable cloth, and gel pads. What I found is that gel pads are the best comfort wise but they slide around the most. They also do not absorb any leaking milk so my bra stays soaked - I tend to leak! Thus, I've been putting on a gel pad and then placing a (larger) washable cloth one over top of it to catch my milk. I have 3-4 boxes of each kind thinking I'd buy more of whichever I liked the most.

Also, my pediatrician recommended that I use Aquafor for my nipples and that has been better than lansinol cream for me. I use a saline wipe to blot it off my nipple right before I feed (although my ped said I didn't need to worry if baby gets some).

These are all the things I've learned so far!

OMG, that's a great idea (to have two packages of the gel therapy packs).  I'll snag another while I'm at Target today.  Thanks for that!

I wish I could remember what I used 16 years ago for my nipples; probably cocoa butter or something else similar to that.  I figure I'll give the lanolin a shot, and if that doesn't work, then I'll certainly give the Aquafor a shot!!

  • I used them religiously starting in the hospital. This girl has a verocious latch.

Also my CVS had them clearanced for 50% off, I bought 3 packs, threw away the used ones after 3-4 days. They worked really well.

  • I used the therapearl for engorgement when my milk came in. I used them frozen and it helped a lot. The LC though told me not to use them frozen all the time as it can actually reduce your supply. But 10 min while engorged she said was ok. I haven't needed to use them again and probably only used them 3 times. I wanted the soothies, but DH was doing the shopping and said they didn't have them at the time.

  • TG for this thread ! MH went to BRU before picking up DS from daycare and bought both the soothies and pesrls.

Using the soothies for the cracked nipples and the Therapearls for engorgment (frozen). Will microwave them before my next nursing session.

  • I used one pack of soothies the first few days home from the hospital and they helped a bunch!! They lasted the full 72 hours! I have 2 more packs on stand by if I need them but so far she's 3 weeks old and I haven't needed them. I also have the 3 in one therapearls. They feel pretty good when you're sore!

  • These things saved me with DS1 when I was in horrible pain, so I already had two packs on standby for #2. I started my first set after a 7 hour feed or cry marathon where he was on my boob most of those 7 hours. I only used it for two days because my nipples were feeling good and it's a hassle to carry around the little plastic tray to put it on when I'm nursing and keep it in a place where my toddler can't get to it. I also kept them in the fridge overnight and used disposables for night time for the same reason of I hate the hassle of keeping track of the plastic tray to put it during nursing. Putting them on in the morning after being in the fridge all night felt sooooo good.
