Any other tomboys having a girl?

Re: Any other tomboys having a girl?

  • I am the same as you, except I don't have a girl yet...however if some day I do, I plan on introducing her to various sports and activities which stereotypically would be male...we live on a farm and that in itself is a male-dominated industry (I'm from a family of 4 girls so therefore have the "I can do anything a man can" attitude towards life) and I plan on instilling this strength in any daughter I have because there is no greater pet peeve for me than a woman who can take pride in her own abilities....I'm sure you will be a great role model for your daughter being exactly who you are!

Thank you =)  And I am jealous.  I grew up working with horses (and own a business working with horses and dogs now) but it's always been my dream to have a farm of my own!

  • I was in the no pink club before DD was born.  As she got older, I realized, I really didn't give a damn.  I wanted her to be able to choose what she wanted to wear.  Now, when we go clothes shopping, I will let her look around with me and pick out some stuff she wants to wear.  If she wants a Ninja Turtles t-shirt, I will buy it.  If she wants a dress with frills on it, I will buy it.

You learn to adjust your lifestyle to help incorporate your daughter and her choices.  It can be a pretty fun experience and you can actually learn a lot more about yourself.

  • I was a really girly and tomboy-y girl. I insisted on wearing dresses (it was closer to being naked) but I loved playing in the mud and climbing trees. As many people have mentioned, children will be themselves and you will love them and connect with them in other ways, even if you don't like the same clothes/activities.

My mom was a very definite tom boy. She didn't teach me make up (that was trial and error) or how to do my hair, I still can't braid to save my life. We talk about our family and reading and crabbing/fishing. We talk about world issues and news.

You'll be just fine, I promise. Mommy jitters suck though :)
