Hey, I just saw your post below about your son flipping out at bedtime. ?We've gone through some strange bed time phases with my son. ?We went through more than one when we had to fight him to take the bottle. ?Sometimes we'd hold him and let him look in the mirror while he drank. ?He went through a phase where he would spit up a lot at bedtime. ?Honestly, I don't know what changed except that he outgrew it. ?I know that doesn't help you but I did want to say that we've been there and things have gotten better. ?Hang in there. ?Oh and btw, to this day he still doesn't really like milk before bed. ?He might take a few ounces if we're lucky but more often than not...nothing.
Re: dragonflyinn
Thank you. It does make me feel better that others have been there, and that it does get better. I think part of the problem for me (at least with Shawn) is that everything that happens with him scares the heck out of me. I have had to go to so many specialists and have had to do so much to try and help him (PT, reflux issues, eye dr's etc) that everything little thing makes me think it is something else bigger and more scary lurking. I am hoping it is just a phase.
Tonight went a little better. We started bathtime about 45 minutes before the usual time, and I was getting him dressed and DH brought me his bottle I started to ask to make sure that he brought me the correct bottle (Shawn is still on a newborn nipple and has to have a special formula (he gets BM for all other feedings). Well, DH was in a crabby mood and just snapped, I gave you the right one, so I started feeding him. The EXCELLENT news is he took the bottle right away. I again tried to ask DH where he got the bottle from because Shawn was almost choking on it, he snapped at me again. Well, after a few minutes I checked and indeed DH brought me the wrong bottle so I was feeding him on a nipple that he couldn't handle with formula he is not supposed to have GRRRRR I could have strangled DH. Needless to say, when we got everything right he wouldn't take the bottle and I ended up having to hold him for an hour. Oh well, focus on the positive right--he took the bottle very well from the beginning. Hopefully it is just an over tired issue.
WOW sorry I rambled on for so long, but thank you thank you thank you for the encouragement.
Yes, his reflux seems to be the problem nipple-wise. He is able to drink the bottle just fine, and quickly if we move up a nipple size. It is not that he is dribbling all over, he does great taking it down, but then an hour or two later he is miserable and fussy and then starts spitting up all over the place. I haven't tried in a month so I am planning on trying on Tuesday when I am home all day with them. I try about once a month, but it usually blows up in my face (quite literally).
We are trying EleCare right now.
