We couldn't take care of our cat anymore. With the baby we just didn't have have time for her and she didn't have the space to run around like she used to. She was being fed, but not loved the way she should be. So we decided after I tried and tried to re-home her with someone I know, hubs had to bring her to our vet who has a shelter.
I wasn't with him when he did it and I'm glad, but I'm still very sad. My poor Gypsy, I will always love you and miss you.
She needs attention and love, not just food. I miss her, but someone will love her and take care of her the way she deserves. That I don't feel selfish for.
Not my cat, she is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. We had to move in with my mil who has a dog that hates cats and my cat was relegated to the front hall, where at our apt she had the run of the place. So no I don't feel bad that I want her to have a better life than what we are able to give her right now. So give all the attitude you want, but I rather my Gypsy be loved than put to a hallway and only fed.

You sent her to a shelter to live in a cage and possibly be euthanized.

She not being enthanized, we brought her to our vet. She's not going to kill a healty cat.
Everything about this upsets me. There is absolutely no fucking way a shelter is a better life for your adult cat than the home she's used to.
As a cat owner, I can honestly say cats are pretty independent creatures. As long as their fed and housed, they're pretty well off. Im sorry but I wholeheartedly disagree with your decision to stick her in a shelter. Just a bad call, IMO. sad.
Get it all our of your systems. It's ok, burn me all you want. I know I did the right thing.
I WAS wrong to think that you all wouldn't think I was a monster, that I should have known better on. So get it all out so things can get back to normal.
She NOT IN A CAGE. We brought her to our vet who said she would find her a home.
Our vet keeps our dog (and all the animals)in a cage when she's just there for the day for a procedure. Where do you think they are going to keep your cat for a long term stay? Just let her roam around the exam rooms?
We had our one cat who was very clingy to us when I was pregnant with DS, and we decided to get a second cat right before he was born to be a companion to her since we knew we wouldn't give her the same level of play and attention. We didn't just get rid of her. It worked out well, they love to play together.
Cats really are so easy compared to dogs... food, water, litter box, a little bit of interaction (like... little bit) and a place to sleep. We manage to do it now with two cats, a toddler, a baby on the way and a small 2bedroom shoebox of an apartment that has no real space for them to run.
Please go get the cat... it is highly unlikely an adult cat will be re-homed and chances are good she could be put to sleep.... in the meantime, she is alone and in a strange place.
I just wanted to say thank you ladies for making me feel like a piece of shit. I think I've been lambasted enough, but thank you for making me think I gave my cat up to satan, it's much appreciated.

This exactly. It's breaking my heart just thinking about it! poor thing
This place is weird today. Also, where do you think the vet is keeping her? Letting her roam around the shelter or IN A CAGE like all other shelter animals? OMG

You gave up your cat to sit in cage all scared and alone while it waits to die. We simply pointed out the falsities in your overly simple thinking. As far as how you feel, the truth hurts. That's not on us.
If cats are not super low maintenance someone please tell me now because that's the #1 reason I want a kitten and not a puppy.

You couldn't for ONE MINUTE think posting this here would gain you sympathy?
You got rid of your CAT because you didn't have enough time to pet her? COME ON!
Cats don't need much. They really don't.
My cat is a complete jerk, but he is my jerk. He is happy at home whether I'm there or not, whether I can pet him or not. He is home and happy.
You could have at least said that you kid was allergic. Sheesh.

I really suggest getting an adult cat over a kitten. Kittens, while freaking adorable, are unpredictable. Adult cats in shelters already have their personalities, are trained and tend to be better around humans. Just a thought. --------------------------

Wow, I just can't believe you thought this would be ok? I volunteer at a shelter. You wanna know what happens to cats that don't get adopted quickly enough? They get euthenized. My shelter runs whole months where adult cats are free to adopt and we still have to euthenize some. It's sad, but it's life. You gave your cat up cuz you had a kid? That's so pathetic. Animals are part of the family, not an accessory to the family. Sure, times can be busy. However, it's a cat. Cats need food, water, and some place to sleep. They are more low maintenance than a goddam hamster. Go get your cat back before it's too late. There was no reason to give that cat up besides complete selfishness. Your going to get zero sympathy from me. I have 2 kids, 2 cats, and have raised 2 puppies now since Cade's been born. I think you can handle a freaking cat.
Old picture of my kittehs, Ella (dilute tortie) and Loki (Black manx)...this was not too long after we got Loki to be a companion to our first, right before DS was born... I had to capture that she had finally accepted him and that they finally lerved eachother .... look how shes hugging him, aw.
They provide plenty of entertainment to one another.
