My little guy had a blocked tear duct. His right eye was always getting goooy and it would get really crusty at night when he was sleeping. It resolves on it own. It went away around at around 8 weeks for us but our pedi said it can last up to 9 months-1 year. At that point, they may need an ENT specialist to open the duct.
We also have a blocked tear duct. Sometimes it looks like she's been crying with tears streaming down her face. The doctor said we will wait to see if it clears but if it hasn't cleared by 6 months we will discuss it then.
If it is staying gunky my pedi recommended taking a warm wash cloth or finger with some Johnson's no more tears to lightly rub on the eye lid to help loosen the gunk and crustiness. He said it wouldn't hurt her.
Lexi got crazy gunk and watery eyes one morning. I ended up using BM as eye drops and then wiping with a wash cloth, her eyes were back to normal within 2 days.
Thank you @Jcrewgirl85. Any idea if this resolves on its own? My DD also gets gnarly sleep buildup.
DD1 had a blocked tear duct. Pedi said 95% of cases resolve on their own by 9-12months. It helps to massage the corner if the eye when cleaning it. DD1's didn't go away at 12months and she had recurring conjunctivitis so she had surgery
