Sleep issues while pregnant

Has anyone had luck finding a comfortable position to sleep in during the 3rd trimester? I'm 32 weeks with twins and am struggling with insomnia on top of tying to get comfortable. It seems like no matter which way I lay, one of the babies is not happy with it and starts moving around like crazy. I'm desperate for sleep! I guess in the long run, this is preparing me for the sleepless nights ahead once the twins are born.

Re: Sleep issues while pregnant

  • The only thing that worked for me was a memory foam mattress topper. We had one in our spare room so I moved in there for the last month or so and slept great with the exception of getting up several times to pee each night. The one we had was about $200 at kohls. It took all the pressure off of my ribs and hips. Wish I had cheaper advice!

  • Do you have a Snoogle or another type of sleep positioner? I wouldn't be able to sleep without it. I tuck one end under my belly for support and it wraps around my body like a cocoon.

  • Oh my gosh I struggle with this same issue.  I'm awake every 2 hours either peeing, adjusting babies, or with heartburn!  The only position that I have found is basically a pillow fort like this:  A wedge with 2 pillows under head, one pillow wedged under one side and one pillow tucked under tummy on opposite side so its like a back-side position.  I want to sleep on my side so bad but babies hate it, can't sleep on my back because it's not recommended, so its somewhere in between.  I tried a pregnancy pillow, but I need to be able to adjust more.  Sorry for the ramble :)

That's pretty much what I do too. Except add in an hour + of being awake around 2-3am which also involves needing to eat something. If/when they do let me sleep on my side, I wake up with my hips being super sore. 6 more weeks...
  • Benadryl saves me. The nights I don't take it I am awake every hour. I at least get 3 hour snooze sessions (with potty breaks). I try not to take it every night but the nights I do I feel well rested the next day.

  • I'm not that far along yet, but I'm using a bunch of pillows including a snoogle, but still get a lot of pressure on my hips, ribs and shoulders... maybe a better memory foam topper is in order. I have a thin, bumpy one, but it's never been that great.

  • I slept on a waterbed with a memory foam topper.  I know waterbeds are old school, but it literally saved my life during the pg.  Everything else hurt sooo bad and when I went on bedrest, I stayed in the waterbed most of the time.  It wasn't as hard to escape from as you'd think - I just rolled out of it, LOL.
