We're team green. We have ds, Charles Gregory, called Charlie. If it's a boy, the name will be Edward James, called Teddy. We've been having a really hard time with girls names. I like nicknames for when kids are young and then full names for them to grow into if they want. Forgot: middle name will be Marie after my mil.

Re: need help with girl name please

  • Yeah that is my concern with Nellie. I don't love the nickname and don't want to force it. I feel like calling her Eleanor is too close to her cousin Nora.

I thought about the hunger games connection to Effie, and it's definitely not out of any love for the books or the character. I like the sound of it a little more than Josie.

The rest of them I love, I just can't decide.

  • Well, I have a Josephine NN Josie, so that was my (biased) pick, but I also adore Edith.

  • How about Ellie for an Eleanor nickname?

I prefer the nn Gwen for Gwendolyn so I voted Edith

I've thought about it but I think Ellie is too popular.

Thanks for the opinions and ideas. I think I've finally narrowed the field down to two (or three)!

  • I would recommend not being SO determined about a nn.  Some of your choices are great names, but the nns are simply awful.

For example, I love Gwendolyn and would possibly have voted for it, but I strongly dislike Winnie.

I voted for Josephine, because I actually like the nn Josie.  A second choice would be Lilliana/Lily.

  • Love Gwendolyn and Josephine!
  • Lilliana or Josephine :)
  • Gwendolyn is awesome!

I don't get where Teddy comes from in Edward James if it's a boy?

Teddy and Ted is a nn for Edward. Ted Kennedy was an Edward.

  • "Winnie" is the worst. I think you should strike it from the list. The rest are equal to me.
  • I love Eleanor, with the nn Nell. Nellie is too cutsey, but I think Nell is gorgeous, even on its own.

  • My friend just named her daughter Edith and calls her Edie.  It is absolutely adorable!

  • I voted Lilliana but do really love elenore
  • Edith/Edie is so cute!!! I love Winnie as a nn but not sure about full name Gwendolen. Josephine/Josie is my second fave.

  • Well I love Eleanor because it's my dd's name lol

But Edith is just as nice and i like the nick name more than Nellie. I love the nick name Winnie but I think Winfred is much better.
