First round clomid follicle size?

Hello ladies! It's my first month of taking clomid 50mg cd 5-9 and late last night (cd 15) and early this morning (cd 16) I finally got positive opk for the first time (I have pcos and do not ovulate on my own)! Today I was scheduled to get an ultrasound to measure my follicle which due to my pain in my right side for 3-4 days, I wasn't shocked that the ultrasound showed a growing follicle! My follicle size is 23.5 mm. Is this a good follicle size? Does anyone know what my chances are of this follicle releasing an egg soon? I'm awaiting more info in my doctor and thought id post out of curiousity.

Re: First round clomid follicle size?

  • One way to ensure it releases is with a trigger shot. But it sounds like that follicle is ready to pop on its own. It's a mature size. How's your LH level? E2? Your doc will be able to give you a better idea after looking at your blood work.

  • That's a great size! I agree with @RunCC37‌. A trigger shot helps to give the follicle it's last little growth spurt and release. Makes TI a lot easier to plan when you have a pretty set timeline. My RE only checks E2 levels on injects but if that's an option for you it would give you a clearer picture. GL!

  • That's a great size! Better then I've ever had on clomid, femara and hmg injections :D
  • Awesome! I'm new at all of this monitoring lol thanks! My LH level is up according to my ovulation tests! :) I get my progesterone levels checked in 7 days too :)
  • That's an excellent size! Sounds like you should have your IUI tomorrow morning? My RE times is based on my first OPK+, but that is with Femara - maybe with Clomid the OPK+ is not reliable, and your RE will have you do a trigger shot and wait 36 hours anyway. Good luck!

  • I did 50 mg of Clomid days 5-9 also, on cd 13 my follie was only 14.5, so I would say yes that's very good! Good luck!

  • @Hollowvic‌ thanks! Did your follie release an egg at 14.5 mm? :)
  • I don't know for sure, I got a positive OPK the next day (sat) and then went in for the IUI on Monday morning, they didn't do an U/S so I'm not sure how big the follie was 3 days later, although I would imagine it got bigger (RE said it grows 1-2 mm a day). When she was doing the IUI she said she can tell I was definitely ovulating.

  • Oh that's good!! I never realized they can actually tell when you're ovulating
