We are thinking of naming our DD Lucia (Lu-see-ah) to complete the sibset for Nicolas and Mila.

Nickname would be Lucy.

Do you prefer Lucy or Lucia as the full name? We have both Spanish and Italian heritiage.

Do you have middle name ideas for Lucia? We already used Juliet as a middle name.

Thanks!

  • Well- if you have both Italian and Spanish heritage-- you may have some pronunciation confusion.  Other than that- I think it's a great fit for you.  And Lucy is an awesome NN.

I was thinking the same thing about pronunciation (Spanish vs Italian). But I don't think it's a big deal. It's a lovely name!

  • DD has a Lucia in her gymnastics class.  The other kids in the class (3 and 4 yos) have a lot of trouble pronouncing it.  Adults struggle with it as well.

    I prefer just Lucy honestly.
  • I love Lucia ! Especially with an accent its elegant and not very common
  • I think the Lucy nickname is a stretch, I don't know why. Maybe bc I pronounce/read it as loo chi a. I prefer just Lucy, if that's what you plan on calling her anyway. My DD is Lucy Maria.

  • I love Lucia, but I agree with PPs that since there are a few valid pronunciations for the name you might run into some confusion.  Lucy is a great nn.
  • Love Lucia! Beautiful! And Lucy as a nickname is cool too :)

I think Mila and Lucia sound nice together and since we have an Italian last name I love the Spanish first name. But I also just love the name Lucy :)

  • love lucia but i would pronounce it the italian way

    not a fan of lucy
  • Lucia is one of our top two names!  I love it but I don't like the way it sounds with our chosen middle name of Lynn (family name) as well as our other top choice does, so I am trying to get DH to consent to using it if we have a second daughter.  We'd use his mom's middle name with it in that case, Lucia Colette, which I think is beautiful.

  • If you want her to be called Lucy, go with Lucy. I have an aunt who is Marcia but called Marcie and she constantly has too tell people to call her Marcie.

Lucia is a great addition to your sibset! I wouldn't worry about the other pronounciations; it's very easy to correct people. Some middle name ideas:

    Lucia Catherine
    Lucia Frances
    Lucia Marie
    Lucia Molly
    Lucia Penelope
    Lucia Phoebe
    Lucia Raven
    Lucia Rhiannon

It's not that I want her to be called Lucy, I just think it's an adorable nickname. I also love Lucia which she can also be called. Same as my son, I love the name Nicolas but also Nick and Nico. Thanks for the advice though!

  • Our top girl name is Lucy. I wish I could talk my H into Lucia but haven't had any luck yet.
We also liked Luciana. Maybe try that? Good luck! Lucy was on my list for our other DD and my DH kept nixing it but all of the sudden this time around he likes it.  :) I absolutely love Lucy as a first name too so you can't go wrong!
