Speaking of childcare...

We're in our last week of summer vacation and have a new T/Th sitter through our sitter service that we haven't had before.

DD1 has a camp T-W-Th of this week, and when the sitter arrived, she was disappointed that she wouldn't get to meet DD1 -- because she has a 2.5 YO DD who is also on the spectrum. :)

Considering what a challenge childcare can be, this kind of made my day.

Re: Speaking of childcare...

  • What does she do for childcare? It's always good to know other options.

  • We talked for a few minutes after I was done working for the day. She's very young, (early 20s), and it's kind of a sad story. She's from a poor part of Kentucky and couldn't find a job there, so she's working out here in CO to help pay for her DD's therapies and go to school while her mom back in KY cares for her DD. She has a brother who also has ASD, so it runs in her family and it sounds like she was very on top of getting her DD dx'd early and hopeful that her DD will have a better outcome than her brother.

She's a very sweet young woman and DD2 had a great time with her. She's specifically interested in helping other families with childcare for kids with ASD while she's here but man, that has to be such a hard spot to be in. :( I'll be requesting her in the future and hopefully I can help her out a bit when I run into people who need sitter recommendations.
