Sleep Sacks

We may or may not have had a crib climb out tonight. I sincerely doubt that E climbed. More likely, C took him out then lied that he climbed. We got her a bunk set a few weeks ago and only put up one bunk, but told her when E was ready, we'd put up the top bunk and she would have the top. She really wants the top, but we don't have a mattress yet. Or at least, that is my theory. So anyway, E's in his crib, in an A&A sleep sack, just in case.

My question is for lighter weight sleep sacks. Does anyone still use or have used halo sacks in the larger sizes? How sturdy are they in the zipper? How heavy?

I like my A&A, but the one I have is winter weight, and I've had constant problems with the zipper splitting open. This is my third sack but the first time he's worn it, so I don't know how this zipper is.

If it does turn out he's climbing, obviously we'll have to come up with a different solution. The kids share the upstairs bedroom and there isn't yet a door on the stairs. At the very least, I need to hobble him in the crib until the weekend when DH can take care of installing a good gate. Thank you!

Re: Sleep Sacks

  • We use halo. They are fairly thick, but the thinner ones are better than the fleece for warmer weather. They have held up great for us.

  • We use large and extra large Halo sleep sacks.  I would get extra large for the future.  The zippers have held up and she has been wearing the large size for about 6 months.  I do think we had some unzipping with the newborn size but I was washing those constantly and we only wash these sacks about every 3-4 days.  I have one thin (think thick t-shirt) material and several thick (fleece).  We sleep with the house a 72 because I am pregnant, and M wears lightweight Carter's footie pjs and a sleep sack on top for naps and bed.  She never seems hot in the fleece and I'm seriously worried that with these cold MI nights, she will get too cold in the thin sack.  She does lots of acrobatics on her crib, and I think the sacks keep her from tossing her foot over and sliding out.  We keep a couple books in her crib and often she's pretty happy reading while she waits for giant mom to get it together, so perhaps a more determined climber would be able to go headfirst with a sleepsack on, but they are working so far.

  • This is timely, I was wondering if anyone is using a sleep sack that is bigger than Halo XL? That's what we have DS2 in now, but he's about 5 seconds from outgrowing it lengthwise. I would like to keep him in a sleep sack without his feet out to hopefully prevent potential crib escapes.

  • Halo fan for life.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • We only use at nap right now with a onesie. Night is footed sleeper for now.

  • @ericalee27 - That's a big kid! DD is 33ish inches and 28ish lbs and fits well in the large A&A. We originally bought XLs, but I seriously think I could have fit in them. The sizing chart says that XL fits up to a 40" kid.
I looked that up last night and then I was all kinds of confused.  Because he is not close to 40 inches.  It was originally DS1's so I wonder if it has just shrank from washing over time??  Hmmm..  Might need to just invest in a new XL for DS2.

  • Thanks ladies.  I'll see if I can track down an XL A&A.  Agreed with Peanut, almost no feet wiggle room for DS2 at this point in Halo XL...he is a 2T as well.

  • We're in the Halo size L but will move to XL soon (DD is 95% for height). We have one jersey and one fleece and they hold up much better than the A&A, though I only had the summer one that seemed flimsy. For winter, we used Baby DeeDee Sleep Nest last season and it was great; will probably be looking at the L for this winter.

  • Dang. I think I might be abusing my child because we keep the AC on at 73 at night (upstairs is still hotter than that) and he sleeps in a short sleeve shirt, long bottoms, no socks and no sleep sack. We haven't used a sack since he was like 6 months ish? In the winter we did the heavy duty fleece jammies but that was it.  He gets his blanket and pillow and I watch him on the montior; the blanket is gone in the time it takes me to get back to my room.

  • For Peanut or anyone who else trying to track down A&A XL sleep bags, I contacted A&A directly asking about them.  Here's what they said....

"We recently discontinued the XL size in both our cozy and classic sleeping bags due to low demand. Unfortunately, we do not have any remaining inventory.  Our apologies for the inconvenience. As an alternative, you may find our XL sizes on Amazon. "

I'm kind of not surprised they discontinued the xl. I've had TERRIBLE luck with just the large size. It's like the zipper they used is too small. E had figured out that if he stand and pulls on it, the zipper will split open and he can get out.

We tried a sleep sack once and that was all. DD was on the one piece pajamas till we made the mistake of trying hand me down 2 piece ones acs now she will only sleep in the 2 piece ones. That was around 9 months. We also keep our ac at 73 but upstairs is hotter. Right now it's 75 in her room. She gets a blanket and is in short sleeve shirt and either shorts or pant pajamas. No socks either. DD isn't comfortable in anything else.

E hates it. ;) But I don't really care. We discovered yesterday, he legit climbed out of the crib. I could cry. I was hoping to keep him contained for at least another six months! Oh well. DH will build a gate/door/something this weekend.

  • We love the zipadee zip. I think its the best sleep sack out there bc they can still move around but have their arms inside, so it gives that cozy feel. The halo sacks were too heavy for our daughter & I wasn't a fan of the velcro.
