I heard about this last night and I'm still torn up about it today. When I was growing up, if anyone ever asked me who my favorite actor was, hands down I always said Robin Williams. When my parents favorite celebrities were getting old and passing away, I wondered, which celebrity would be the one I'd miss the most, the one death that would mark the shift in the age of pop culture from their era to mine, and it was Robin Williams (not sure if I'm even phrasing that coherently). I knew he struggled with depression and addiction...the depression wears many masks and often the funny man smiles to hide the pain. I hope he's found peace, and his family has as well. </3
Not only is this tragic to me, because he was an amazing talent and the world has lost so much by losing him...but because he battled mental illness for years and was someone I felt for a long time I could look to as a success story. It's disheartening, and tragic for certain
I feel this same way. I learned when I was in HS that he struggled with depression (we talked about it in my psychology class)..as I got into my late teens and early 20s and really started having my own problems I always thought, "Well, RW is in his 50s and he's made it...I can do this." So sad to see him succumb to his disease.
I go through Do Not Link to look at Matt Walsh's blog on this, so I don't get him any more hits. Now he's written a response to everyone calling him out for what he wrote. It is just as bad. It is a "woe is me, my family and I are getting death threats" kind of response. You would hope that he learned his lesson about writing carelessly about others and topics he doesn't know about, but alas, he is too narcissistic to realize that and just drummed up some "Poor you, Matt Walsh" in his response. Of course, his response never apologizes, but goes on to say how right he is and how people are assuming he said x or y, when he didn't actually say it. I am so irate about this. In his definition of depression, I'm guessing he never actually had a clinical diagnosis of depression - since he poo-poos clinical definition of depression.

Oh, that Do Not Link site is so cool! I didn't know about it. Thanks, @Ago!
So he dismisses "75%" of the comments he received and choses a few to respond to that he paraphrases in a convenient way and don't actually get to heart of what his post was about which offended so many people.
Sounds like he's an expert at making himself believe he's right about everything. :P
I'm seriously considering quitting the internet...

I know, I'm so irritated and heartbroken about this. I can avoid reading his stuff since it is on his own blog, but I REALLY HATE when people post it on Facebook - no matter what he writes. It makes me want to quit the internet too.

Wow. He kind of missed the point. I'm guessing that's a theme with this guy?
