Trouble TTC

BFN! Thanks for nothing EPT!

Hey ladies! I hope you are all having a fabulous day!
I posted awhile back (in May/June) about how my fiance and I have been TTC for the past 3 years with no luck. Long story short, I had laparoscopic surgery June 2, 2014 by my RE because he thought I had a blocked tube, but come to find out there was a cyst on my tube and some endometriosis. Everything was removed and I have been back to my normal routine since July. After my last check up with him he said if I am not pregnant within the next 2-3 months, to come back and see him. I tried not to get my hopes up, because of all the bad luck in the past, but we did actually have sex July 19th, a few days before my predicted ovulation day last month.
Well here I am 5 days late for my period - It was due August 6th (my fiance's bday actually) ... I have never been this late before EVER. I've been using an app on my iphone  for the past 4 years and it is usually spot on when predicting my period due date. The most I have ever been late was 2 days.
I've been experiencing some cramping all weekend long, but no sign of AF. Also constipation, headaches, and I am extremely exhausted!
So I called my gyno to set up an appointment for Friday but on my way home from work I stopped at CVS to get a HPT. I purchased EPT brand... took the test, waited a good 4-5 minutes and a big fat negative! :(
What now ladies? Is it possible that it's too soon? I have one more test left, is it really best to take it in the morning??

Re: BFN! Thanks for nothing EPT!

  • I'm sorry you're in this crazy position. Lateness can happen on any cycle if ovulation was later than usual (or doesn't occur), which can happen for a myriad of reasons.

If you are 5 days past an expected period, then there's almost no way that you could have O'ed on time and be getting a false negative at this point. There's always the possibility that you O'ed a bit later, and do happen to be pregnant, and it's just not created enough hCG yet for the test.

Did you happen to temp this cycle so you know when you O'ed? If not, a BFN today or tomorrow morning doesn't mean much more than a BFN before you even ovulate, honestly.

You could ask your doctor's office if they are willing to do a blood test to make sure, but if you don't know when you O'ed, then they might make you wait until a certain cycle day. I hope this is your month! Now that your surgery has taken care of things, you should have as good a chance as anyone. :)

  • You probably ovulated later than expected and that's why your period hasn't shown up. Wonky cycles happen.

Yes, first morning urine is best for pregnancy tests because it's usually more concentrated than your urine during the day.

I'm new to all this and never even taken my temp to check for ovulation. In the past I used the ovulation strips and such.
I dont know if it matters but last month I had went to the dermatologist (from the stress of the surgery I actually lost some hair in one little spot!) to get steroid injections to regrow my hair and he sent out my hormone levels and I just so happened to be "ovulating" as per my phone app and the labs said I was in the ovulating stage as well>

What made your dermatologist believe that you were ovulating? Did he say?

  • Sorry my post got cut off. The lab results said I was in the ovulating stage. He was just checking my levels to see if that was why I was losing hair.

I guess what I'm asking is if they found higher levels of LH (luteinizing hormone) or progesterone. If it was LH, that might lead them to believe that your body was gearing up to ovulate, but it doesn't necessarily mean that you did. If it was progesterone, it could've meant that you already ovulated.

  • Well, the LH surge indicates your body is gearing up to ovulate. The only way to know for sure is with monitoring through an RE or by temping. I hope your surgery goes well!

  • Thanks. I had my surgery June 2nd.
I think it was the LH that was in the range for ovulating phase.

Today is day 6 though and still no period.
Idk about it being off this much. I'm just hoping nothing is wrong caused by my surgery. June period and July period came and went like normal. June was a little heavier due to the surgery. Ugh!
