Just curious how many moms with outside babies were induced and what the result was... Scheduled for an induction this week, what's my fate?

Re: How did your induction turn out?

  • My first labor (16+ years ago) was induced (he was 1 week overdue), and, while labor went on for about 16+ hours, he was delivered vaginally, no problems, no issues.

Only sitting at 38w today, so doc said we won't discuss induction for this one until the 25th, at which point, I'm scheduling it for that Friday for sheer convenience and hoping she'll wait until then.  Because at that point, what's 4 more days, right?  :|

  • DS induction went really well. He was out in 5 hours flat, no complications

DD induction was a complete mess. I had a 20 hour labor and She came out vaginally but not without complications and a whole slew of interventions. She came out by a vacuum, cord was wrapped around her neck twice ect.

That being said DS was full term and my body was ready at 3 cms dialated and almost fully effaced, DD was 4 weeks premature (pre eclampsia) and i was only fingertip dialated and not effaced at all, not even thinned but I was soft.

  • Haven't had baby #3 yet, but I can say from my previous two births, I already fit two of your options! My first required pit intervention after starting labor naturally. My second was a scheduled induction. I had two vaginal deliveries, but my first was very complicated and my second easy.

  • Thanks for your responses! I feel a little better. I'm hoping for a vaginal delivery and trying to prepare myself for anything.
  • My first DD was 4 weeks early, induced due to PROM. I was not dilated or effaced at all, but she was born vaginally with minimal additional interventions (epi) about 12 hours later. Good luck!
  • I was terrified of induction, mostly because I wanted to avoid a C-section.  My labor was 25.5 hours, but I was able to deliver vaginally (I started with pitocin, but they also had to break my water to get really things going).

  • I've had 2 inductions and both worked out just fine. My second was a little longer because the doctors were stingy with pitocin. I found the contractions really manageable and I was able to relax through most of my long labor with no problems. I only started thinking about pain meds right at the very end.

  • I was started on a low dose of pit after my contractions became irregular and weren't progressing me as they should have been. My water had also broken earlier that morning.

It really picked things up and progressed me, but it was the most intense pain of my life, primarily in my thighs. I broke down around 8 cm and got a low dose of fentanyl which didn't do jack for the pain but allowed me to fall into a sleep haze in between my contractions which had become a minute long, minute and a half apart. From there she was out in an hour and a half. 20 minutes of pushing, really minor 2nd degree tear. She was and is a super alert baby.

So yeah. It's rough but it most certainly can be done. :)

  • for what it is worth, increased fluid is no reason for induction. i have had it with both pregnancies with AFI's ranging from 25-32 and there was never a mention or need for induction. having too little fluid is a much much MUCH more serious issue. I would tell your doctor you arent comfortable with it.
