Trying to Get Pregnant

Progesterone Level ?

So my doctor had me come in today which is one week past trigger. Even though I am probably only 5dpo, and my level came back at 4.87. She emailed me saying "it looks great- you ovulated." So I was confused as my last RE told me they like to see over 10. So I emailed her back and she said "oh goodness.. we hardly ever see levels that high."

What in the world is going on? This is one of the best fertility clinics around with board certified doctors. That just still seems low to me.
What do you ladies think?

Re: Progesterone Level ?

  • Hmm, I had my progesterone checked a couple months back 7 days after my last positive OPK....but according to my chart, I was only 5 DPO. My progesterone was a 2.6 which my OB said was "not indicative of ovulation". I was out of town and couldn't have another blood draw.

This past month I've been seeing an RE, I had a blood draw that was right at 6 or 7 DPO and my progesterone was 12.4, which they said was great for a non-medicated cycle and indicated ovulation. If I'm not mistaken, I think they want a level above 5 to indicate ovulation, but anything less than 10 is low and may indicate a weak ovulation.

Also, I believe you will want to be checked 7 DPO for an accurate reading. Did they give you a sono to prove you ovulated? I don't know....maybe medicated cycles have different levels (although I assumed they would be higher). I am new to medicated cycles, too...I did Clomid this month, Ovidrel trigger last Thursday and started progesterone suppositories on Saturday to try to cure weak ovulation & luteal phase defect.

I do know they do not do ultrasounds on a cycle using Ovidrel because they say it pretty much guarantees ovulation. I am thinking it could be a little low because Progesterone peaks at 7dpo. I may see if they will retest it Wednesday just to see. I just found it strange they say they use anything over 3 an indicator of ovulation!

Thank you! I did a conversion and if it is correct it might be more around 12.6. I will email them first thing tomorrow and see what units it is measured in :)

  • My doc tested me between cd 8-10.  My level was a 24, but it turned out I was pregnant that cycle.  But was told 10 and over was normal for a non-medicated range.  5dpo seems really early to test imo.

  • I think different labs may test at different levels and different units, as a PP said. If she said it's good you have to assume that's a great sign!

Thank you! Until this post I had no idea there were different units. That makes much more sense! Thank you :-)
