Special Needs

I need help understanding.

I'm still trying to process the dx report.

There are two lines I read this weekend:
-rule out pdd-nos
-rule out social communication disorder

Now as I understand, there isn't enough evidence to give DS a pdd-nos nor a SCD DX, but the psych can't rule it out 100%. It feels like were one foot in/one foot out...am I crazy for feeling uncomfortable with not fitting into one box? Will the school evaluate to see what supports he will need in school? Is pdd-nos now considered ASD, level-1 support?

So many questions, even after all of my questions have been answered. Is this a common response after a dx?

  • When my son received s rule-out ADHD diagnosis, it was explained to me that it meant they didn't have enough information to make a diagnosis for sure, and that over time they would watch for symptoms and mite evidence to decide if he really had it or not.

Depending on how old your child is and what they were looking for, it's possible they are not sure what she couldn't/did do because of delays or as a result of other issues/diagnoses as opposed to PDD-NOS or SCD. In time, it should become more clear.
