TTC after 35

5 week 5 days us no baby observed. Help with your experiences...

Good Morning:

I went on Friday for an us after finding out on Wednesday through a bw I was pregnant. My us resulted with a gestational sac and a yolk sac. No baby observed. Is this normal? I had a mc in April this year at 9 weeks through a fertility treatment that I still cry and suffer.  I was not expecting to get pregnant without the help of a fertility treatment and this happened. I am so nervous and desperate. I don't have words to explain what I feel inside of me. Please help me with your honest experiences. I don't want to have my high hopes but I don't want either to loose hope on this bb again.

It is possible that it is too early to see anything. Did they take more blood to compare your HGC to see if it is doubling?

ETA: maybe ask the ladies on PGAL.

  • Thanks for your response. They did another HCG but didn't call me back with results and they don't work during the weekend.  Excuse the ignorance what is PGAL?
  • PGAL is the "Pregnant After a Loss" board. You can pop over there, introduce yourself (give them a little bit of background of who your are and your TTC journey) and ask them for their experiences. They are a very nice group of women.

Unfortunately, at 5 weeks 5 days, you should definitely see a fetal pole. A very small fetal pole, but definitely something. I am really sorry to hear about this though, and as pp stated, I would talk to the PGAL board or maybe even 1st trimester.

    Hoping the best for you.
  • I think it can be normal. I had my first u/s with my son at what I *thought* was 5 weeks 5 days...we only saw a gestational sac. No fetal pole or heartbeat. They told me not to worry, that I probably just ovulated later than normal (when I got pregnant with my son I was "not trying, not preventing" and did not know when I ovulated).

I went back again for another ultrasound at what I *thought* was 7 weeks 4 days....boom, heartbeat, but I was only measuring at 6 weeks 5 days, so suspicions were confirmed that I ovulated late. I had a very healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby boy. Unless you know you DEFINITELY ovulated on the day you think you did, I think it's completely normal to not see the heartbeat or fetal pole this early in the game. Good luck!

Gumita- have you heard back about your results?
  • I called my DR office and the nurse told me she wants to see me again on Thursday. My second beta was 14018 ( 1st 9900 48 hrs before).  I will keep you posted and I will try to calm and stay positive.  Thanks again.

Those numbers look good to me!  Full disclosure:  I'm not a doctor though, so what do I know, right?  ;)

On Thursday, you should see a third beta of 42,000 or so?
  • Might be too soon. That's why most doctors like to do sono's when your at least 7 weeks. Good luck
  • Congratulations, Gumita!!!  I'm thrilled for you.

Can't wait for you to report back in two weeks about hearing your little one's heart beat!!!
  • Fantastic! I'm so glad you shared the update!
