What are you reading?

I haven't read a book in probably a month and I feel lost. After this weekend we should slow down some so I need some books. I did pick up Sinner by Maggie Stievater (sp) this morning

Rain of Gold by Victor Villasenor. It's an amazing book about the authors parents from when they were each 6 in Mexico during the revolution and throughout their lives until they meet and get married and onwards. I read it in my junior year in high school and have been meaning to read it again ever since.

  • The Silkworm - JK Rowling

It's her second book in this series. I really liked the first one.

  • I'm always reading kids books because it doubles for me when I'm lesson planning. Just revisited From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. Love that book :)

I hardly ever have time to read adult novels.... I suppose if I stopped bumping I'd have more time...........

  • Rereading The Giver right now. I'm trying to figure out all the hype and make sense of the trailers I've seen for it. I read it in school, but don't remember it.

    LOVE this book!
  • Re reading Jilly Cooper Rutshire chronicles.  VERY light reading, but still entertaining.  Also, I like a long series.

  • I'm reading Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. I'm about to start Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire.

Never heard of either but their titles alone have me intrigued!

Devil in the White City is about H.H. Holmes the serial killer and the Chicago world's fair. It's so interesting. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister retells Cinderella through the eyes of one of her ugly stepsisters and how she discovers her own beauty.

    @dontstopbelievin Have you read Wicked?
  • Me too @Moidonna‌

I just downloaded the kindle app and downloaded The Selection by Kiera cass because it was 2.99

  • I'm reading The Seduction of Phaeton Black by Jillian Stone.  It's kind of meh.  I picked it up expecting a bit of steampunk, but no.  I think I'm going to put it down in favor of Blameless by Gail Carriger.  Either that or one of the young adult advance copies I'm supposed to be reviewing.
I love Gail Carriger's books so much.
  • @guiltypleasures  She is definitely one of my favorites.  Have you tried her Finishing School series?  It's aimed toward a younger audience, but still the same hilarious GC.
Yes, I can't wait for the next one to come out. I'm looking for books similar to hers to hold me over. Can you recommend anything?

  • The last Outlander book on my Kindle and I'm listening to The Ocean at the End of the Lane on my way to work.

I've been on a paranormal romance meets steampunk spiral, but haven't found anything that compares to her style.  I would recommend Dearly, Departed by Lia Habel, which is also young adult, but it looks like the third in the series will never be released.  If you like ass-kicking girls, there's The Girl in the Steel Corset by Kady Cross.  It's part of a series of 4 and they're pretty good.
Thanks! Paranormal romance meets steampunk is pretty much my favorite. I wish there were more books like that. I was wondering if The Girl in the Steel Corset was good. I heard about it but the few people who read it said that they didn't like it. I'll give it a try.

@dontstopbelievin I'll always recommend Guilty Pleasures by Laurell K. Hamlton. Obviously it's one of my favorites. It's part of a long series. Many people call them smutty books. Sex isn't a main point in the series until quite a few books in. The Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs is another favorite. The Downside Ghost series by Stacia Kane is also really good. They all have unique worlds and well crafted characters.

If I Stay - I want to finish it before the movie comes out.

I picked up Silver Linings Playbook this week, but heard it's a dry movie/book so I'm not sure if I'm going to start it.

I read it and watched it. It was dry. The book was ok, but very depressing

  • The Help since I read this thread last night.

I recently read Salvage the Bones about a family in the days before Katrina and loved it!

I just finished A Discovery Of Witches. It's weird, I didn't like so much about it, yet I put a hold on the 2nd one and will devour it as soon as it comes in.
  • Good to know about the selection series @GotGingy‌ I'll start that today. We seem to like the same books

  • I've been re-reading my Emily Giffin books. She is one of my favorite authors!

Then I plan on reading Gone Girl again.

Sometime this year, I would like to read the Harry Potter books again. I loved them so much and haven't read them in years.
  • I'm just starting "Blood and Bone" by Tara Brown. I love all of her books.

Definitely check on the Imdalind series by Rebecca Ethington. Book 1 is Kiss of Fire. Sooooo good.
  • @angelashly The Selection series was one of my favorite easier reads. It was recommended after I read the Hunger Games and Divergent, and I went all in with them. I think I gave up sleep for 2 nights in a row to cram the series in. Needless to say, it was a great read. Highly recommend it!
