Car seats on airplanes

Everyone's favorite topic..... Flying with babies!!!

Seriously though, I need your recommendations. We are flying with DS in a couple weeks and I have been going back and forth in my mind over car seats.

I don't know if I should buy a cheap seat, that I know is light and compact and all that, or take our Britax. I was looking at the Evenflo Tribute. Which is recommended for flying. However some people say it's a pain to install in the car and isn't very comfortable. I would prob use this seat for H's car afterwards. And it's a cross-country flight so I would like it to be comfortable.

Or should I take the Britax which is easier to install (we'll use it in my mom's car while there) and comfy (and the one he's used to) but is bigger and will take up more room in the plane and is heavy to haul around?

So have you flown with a car seat? Which one, and what do you recommend?

No advice on the plane situation but we have the tribute and I wouldn't say it is difficult to install. DD seems comfortable in it too.

We have a safety 1st one that we love. It's super light and comfortable in the car. It's our second car seat because it's easy to install uninstall and FAA approved. I also strongly recommend getting the rolling thing that you can strap this to and pull it through the airport. We flew two weeks ago and we did DH with his back pack, me with his stuff as my carryon that I shoved under the jogging stroller, then the diaper bag. In the end DH rolled the car seat and I pushed the stroller and we were good. We had plenty of stuff for snacks, toys, etc. we got our seat at Walmart

Sounds great @sct728‌. Thank you! I was thinking of bungee cording it to a carry on bag with wheels.

@jedimindtrick‌ It's probably the Safety 1st Guide 65 (also sold as an Eddie Bauer XRS 65 at Target). I have 2 for my DHs car. They are under $100, lightweight, rear face to 40 lbs, and harness to 65. I got the Target version for DS2 when they had the sale..I like the padding on it a little better. I wouldn't pay more than $100 for either version though. It's a nice 2nd seat that will get you to Kindergarden age.
