TTC After a Loss

Hiccups

I've been relatively silent over the last week or so due to work, but have a question for all of you. Ever since my loss I've noticed that I get hiccups more frequently , especially after having a drink or two. At first I thought it was because I had too much to drink, but after seeing the same symptoms after a single drink I'm not so sure.

So, do you get hiccups and if so, what's your treatment?

Re: Hiccups

  • I do. Not more frequently since my loss, though. My usual technique is to take a deep breath, hold it, then try to take a little more air in and continue holding as long as I can. I repeat this a few times. It generally works.

  • Okay, this is funny, but I swear I've been getting them more often than I can ever remember since my loss. (It's nice to not be alone). I usually either:
    - hold my breath as long as I can, repeat a couple of times
    - drink a glass of water from the opposite side of the cup (do this over a sink)
    - put a teaspoon of sugar under my tongue and drink a glass of water.

One of these works almost every time.

  • Drinking a lot of water if it happens in public, but at home, I swear by singing "Jingle Bells" out loud. Weird, I know, but somehow it regulates my breathing and after a few choruses - no more hiccups. A few my friends didn't believe me but after trying it for themselves it's become their go to as well. Only downside is you sound absolutely ridiculous while doing it.  ;)

Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.

  • @jennadesigns I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking it's gotten worse since my loss.
@paintdadanta‌ great, now I have Jingle Bells in my head. ;-)
Thanks for the suggestions ladies, holding my breathe hasn't seemed to work lately.

  • When H and I were dating I had horrible hiccups at a bar one night. He covered a glass with a paper napkin and told me to drink the whole glass of water through the napkin without stopping. It worked and I thought he was a genius. I really think any trick that regulates your breathing will work.

  • I get hiccups all the time. I either drink water from the opposite side of a glass. Or hold my breath and while holding it swallow 3 times. I swear it works

    Well THERE you are! :)

I always get the hiccups(and loud ones) when I drink.... the trick is to put bitters on a lime/lemon and eat that. Works like a charm!!

    >:D<  Hi there!  Work has been keeping me swamped lately and I haven't been very active here because of it.
