Natural Birth

Placenta Previa

Anyone have partial placenta previa that didn't resolve itself? We are at a birth center with midwives but I opted for the 20wk a/s with the MFM at the nearby hospital. They found my cervix partially blocked but said not to worry that it should fix itself and they will check again at 30wks. So of course all I can think about is that it isn't going to go away and I my natural birth plans could be thrown away. DS was an all natural OP birth at a hospital and we were hoping this one would be even smoother. We will of course be discussing all of our concerns with our midwives at our next appt in 2 weeks.

Re: Placenta Previa

  • If the MFM thinks it will move, it most likely will. Try not to worry too much. I had complete previa at 20 weeks and by 28 weeks it had moved. No problems after that.
  • I had it at 20 weeks as well and by 24 weeks it had moved.  It was still close and I had a bit more bleeding than most women, but nothing serious.  Doctor didn't even bat an eye at it.

  • Same boat as you. We had our 20 week a/s on Tuesday and they told me the exact same thing. Going back at 28 weeks to see if it's moved. I was about to hire a doula this week and now I'm worried that I may not even get to have a vaginal birth! I'm just trying to stay positive and telling my placenta to move it on up!!!!! Hugs.

Good Luck! The weeks are going by so slowly, I didn't want any extra u/s but now I'm just like 'check me so I can quit freaking out!'

  • I'm in a similar situation...we need to pay for our hypnobirthing class, but the money is non refundable. I don't want to pay for the class until I know the my placenta previa has resolved. I'm calling to book my ultrasound for 30 weeks tomorrow, so hoping for good news by the end of the month! Good luck to everyone else with the same issue!
  • My placenta was low with my first (found at like 14 weeks and had started to lift by 20).  I went on to have an unmedicated birth.  I think it is one of those things that you'll have to monitor closely and it seems like they lift in many cases.

  • Finally had our follow up u/s today and after 10 weeks of stressing we found out my placenta is 4cm out of the way! We are so excited that it is no longer an issue. Hope everyone else has gotten some good news at their appts too!

  • With my second pregnancy I find out at around 14 weeks that I had a partial placenta previa and by 30 weeks it had moved away from my cervix. I had a natural birth with her as well.
