PUPPS

Has anyone had PUPPS? I have been putting Aveno Baby diaper rash cream on it and it seems to help the itchiness and gets rid of the bumps. I told my doctor and she gave me a prescription for Benadryl but I'm not taking any medication during my pregnancy.

So I was just thinking do you think using Diaper rash cream on my belly is safe? I've also been using baby oil.

Thanks.

Re: PUPPS

  • Not familiar with PUPPS, but if it's something that's itchy, maybe try the topical Benadryl gel?

  • I think making yourself miserable by not taking medications is silly especially this far along because they are just getting bigger now.

I mean I get the natural aspect but making yourself suffer over a safe alternative is not fun
  • Aloe gel after sun helps a lot too though, I had this last time
  • Thanks for the info, I'm not suffering! It's not that bad...I was just curious if anyone thought using creams on your belly was dangerous? I read an article that said some creams get absorbed into your bloodstream and can harm the baby. So I was just wondering what some people have used when having PUPPS!

But thanks for the tips, I will try aloe.

  • You guys that have it - I'm curious if you're team blue or pink.  I read an article once that suggested that PUPPS was more common in pregnancies with boys because it appears that it may be caused by your skin having an allergic reaction to the male DNA.  That sounds CRAZY to me, but seeing this thread reminded me.

My coworker had it with her boy. The doctor told her her body was allergic to the pregnancy. Too weird.

I don't have it this time, but I had it when I was pregnant with DD!

  • I had it a little on my belly. I actually found that keeping it completely dry made it go away. So no lotion or oils. I just put that stuff around it. It cleared up in about a week. I guess it could've been some other kind of rash but generally rashes respond well to dryness.

I have a mild case, and discovered after a vacation of being in the ocean every day that salt water seemed to help clear it up... I am sure there are far more healing properties to real sea water, but now using a gentle sea salt body wash (St. Ives) back at home, which also seems to keep it at bay. (No pun intended)
  • It sucks - here is what has worked for me:  Washing everywhere with Grandpa's Tar Soap in the morning, after work and before sleep.  Then straight undiluted 100% pharmacy grade tea tree oil until it starts drying out, with diluted tea tree as you think best once the scales get dry.  Personally, anything ointment, cream or emollient based made it WAY worse. • I had it with my first (a boy) and thought I was going to die b/c I itched so much.  I used hydrocortizone (the OTC dosage- I think it's 5%) and that helped take the edge off.  I took my tube with me to the bathroom every time I went and put more on.  I also tried really hard just to ignore it bc no amount of scratching was going to help.  Thankfully, mine went away pretty much immediately after I gave birth so it was a really rough 3ish weeks (I think mine stared at 36 or 37 weeks), but went away as fast as it appeared.  I would recommend bringing it up with your doctor as itching can be a sign of other more serious issues.

Hang in there- it was not fun, but it does go away!
