@FFWifey - Wait, where do you live? Also, random comment, one of my BFFs has a son named Quillan and I never heard it before them. She is American, but her family is from Ireland and she now lives internationally (lived in London when he was born). So I assume it's a more common name over there.
My FFFC is that I love America and it infuriates me when I see people (Americans) constantly hating on our country. Do we do everything right? No. Do we need some reform? Yep. But we have a lot of freedoms here and a lot of men and women fighting for our freedoms and we are a hell of a lot better off than many other countries around the world.
Being dissatisfied with the government, education system, healthcare, maternity leave etc does not equate being ungrateful for military personnel. One of the freedoms we have in the US is that we get to bitch about it all and not fear repercussions. Is the US better off than a lot of countries? Yes. Are there countries that have things more "right" (IMO) than the US? Yes.

I really hope my SIL chooses a place to eat for her bday that's over an hour away so I can use LO as an excuse not to go.
While I'd LOVE. A GNO (haven't had one in over 7 months, I just really don't want to leave LO while I'm that far away. And also I just don't want to go because I don't want to have to worry about pumping.

I've got another! LO doesn't have an exersaucer or a jumparoo, and I'm not getting him one.
We have a walker and a taggies thing you put in the doorway, but it says bit to put baby in them until they can sit up on their own.
I also don't have any "big" activity center. We make our own on the floor.

I wasn't aware for a while that you need to wash behind LO's ears. When she was about 3 months old I discovered about, well 3 months worth of crusted up spit up behind her ears. Ewwwww! Now that is the first thing we wash at bath time!

Hahaha OMG I bet that was DISGUSTING!! My sister discovered the nastiness behind the ears when LO was maybe a couple weeks old? I had no idea either. It's sooo gross. I am really laughing, sorry! Lol
I can only assume some of it naturally fell off over time because there wasn't THAT much considering how long it took me to discover. When I noticed it I was like OMG, I'm a terrible mother, lol.

@mndynitetragdy I sucked my thumb way too long, so I totally understand.
I think this little one will end up being a thumb sucker . So far she only sucks it for a few minutes while she falls asleep. DS wanted nothing to do with with a paci or his thumb so I ended up being a human pacifier for 2 years. I don't which is worse.

Same thing happened to us! I started noticing a smell when I would get close to his ear... when I looked behind his ear it was disgusting! I felt soooooo bad. But that happened back in June. I freaked cuz I thought it was some infection. But my Aunt told me what it was and I was sooo relieved. I definitely make sure I clean every nook and cranny lmao!

FFFC... Glad I didn't order a shirt. I couldn't have worn it to my public school teaching job anyway.
Also, just FYI if you suspect your child has a disability and formally request testing the school legally has to provide testing. No school is just going to be like...."Yeahhhhh, noooo. Just go ahead and sue us instead. That'll be cheaper than providing services."
Schools are not required to test for a disability just because a parent requests it. We are required to hold a screening meeting if a parent wants a child tested. At the meeting data is presented from both the teachers and the parents and then it's decided if the school will go forward with testing. The parents always have the right to mediation or due process, but if the school or parents do not have data to support a suspected disability then the school is not forced to test a child.
That being said, I've tested more kids than I care to admit that turned out not to have a disability because the parents threatened lawyers if we didn't test and it's just easier to have a good working relationship with the parents.
ETA: typing is hard
Okay, yes you are correct... I guess I have just never known my district to not test after holding a meeting due to fear of legal action. That was my point, if a parent or team member is legitimately concerned, in my district anyway, testing always happens because no one wants to be sued.
Teachers, for the most part, want what is best for their students so I don't think that some of the previous home schooling comments (no one will help my kid who has a disability) are fair. In fact, it sort of irritates me.
@LittlePigeon I hope your not talking about my comment in the UO. My son got tested and was given assistance with reading from 1st grade to 4th grade. I kept asking specifically for them to test for dyslexia and they flat out refused multiple times. The techniques you use to help a dyslexic child are different from general reading problems.
My main problem was that along with the fact that I worked really hard with my son to keep his reading on track through the summer and when he went back to school he quit progressing and started regressing (he was leaving the classroom for several hours a week, he should not have been regressing). If anything his progress should have stalled. FTR, I know he regressed bc he was tested at the start of school and again before Christmas break.
I took all the steps I could to get my kid the help he needed. The school refused to do what they needed on their end.
I'm truly am sorry that you didn't get the help you needed from the school your son attended. It sounds like you did a lot to be extremely involved and proactive... Which, in my experience as a center-based special education teacher, is not always the case. However, to jump from you not getting the help you needed at one school district to your comments about public education is pretty intense and unfair, in my opinion.
@FarmBoysWife I am confused when you say they "don't really believe in freedom of speech". Who is they?
The 1st amendment guarantees you will not be prosecuted for anything you say (within reason). Have you ever been arrested for speaking out against the government? If not, how can you say "they" don't believe in freedom of speech?
@mommyKT310 Your family is fortunate that you have the tools to provide that education to your son at home. I am a special education teacher and I can assure you that is not the case for most families of students with disabilities. I work incredibly hard with my students and took a job working with students with the most severe disabilities in the county. I am just being honest when I say that it is, in my opinion, pretty uninformed to say the public education system is not good enough for students with disabilities just because you had a bad experience.
What everyone said. Someone disagreeing with you is a natural consequence of what you said. It's life. If the government were against freedoms of speech, you would be in jail.

My ex probably still sucks her thumb. We were together in college and she still did it back then while picking the fur off stuffed animals, to get to sleep. I used to know when she fell asleep because you would hear her sucking get louder as her mouth released the grip on her thumb. It was so odd. I wish I was kidding. So I guess that's her FFFC! )
@ShellsBells1980 no, funding wasn't the issue. They just felt that they were offering him enough so they refused to test for dyslexia.
Dyslexia is a medical diagnosis, not an educational diagnosis. It falls under the category of a specific learning disability. Schools can't test for dyslexia, but when testing for a reading disability, indicators for dyslexia may be apparent. In that case, if the child has a reading disability then there are strategies and tools that can and should be used to help with the dyslexia. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but most teachers work really hard to meet the needs of their students.
Alright here's mine. I still on occasion wear my maternity pants. It makes me feel a little better about myself because they fit so comfortably whereas my other pants just feel uncomfortable still for me. I know I need to get on the exercise routine but I've just been lazy, there's another confession too I guess
I still wear my maternity jeans all the time. Even though I've lost most of the weight my stomach is still puffy and my old jeans don't fit right anymore. (I haven't gotten around to buying new ones.) I think I look a lot better in the maternity ones. And yeah, no exercise routine here either :-/
