Small car owners...

Anyone else buying their baby gear according to what will fit in their cars?
I have been trying to figure out what stroller to get and it turns out my cars trunk opening decided for me. I went to target today to measure the stroller I wanted once it was folded. I didn't think it would fit so I had an employee take a stroller, and I took a stroller out to my car. One of the two fit into my trunk. It took up the whole damn trunk....but it fit.

So now I am registering for a much more expensive stroller and infant car seat just because my car is small. I guess I should be glad I figured this out now and not after someone bought it for me.

I have a Chevy cruze by the way.

I have a Nissan Juke and I'm really scared that the stroller I want (Britax B Agile) isn't going to fit. I've been dreading going to BRU to try and fit it in my trunk. I know that the Britax car seats fit since my cars manual has a (very short) list of car seats that will work but the strollers measurements are borderline. I got my car a month before my BFP too :-/. Sorry I'm no help but I'm curious to see what answers you get!

Well we bought our stroller and car seat and then realized it fits in our cars, but we do have to move our seats a little. I'm really the only passenger and my SO always drives so we made it work to where I am comfy. He will never be able to sit in the passenger seat (he's way to tall) but like I said he drives all the time anyways. Oh yeah, that's also in a camaro which has very small back seats lol. We also only drive this occasionally.

In our other car, an Infiniti, idk the exact kind bit its a small 4 door. Probably equal to or smaller than your cruze. We actually have her car seat in the middle. It works out perfect since its away from both doors in case of being hit on the side and its very secure. You could always try that to make it fit a little better.

Our stroller fits fine in both cars so I'm not much help on that. We have a quinny buzz xtra.
  • Check out Urbini Petal carseat and travel system. Its only carried by Walmart but its really light weight, compact, and highly recommended by the caraeats for littles group. Yiu can find their review of it on their facebook page.

Its a newish brand and you use to only be able to buy the carseat and stroller combo but as it is gaining popularity they have more buying options and just recently started offering a jogging stroller.

  • I wanted the baby trend jogger range travel system from target. The stroller wouldn't fit in the trunk. The Eddie Bauer endurance jogging stroller did fit.

I just read a forum I found on Google where someone said they fit the baby trend expedition stroller in their Chevy cruze trunk. My wal mart has that one....so I could get them to help me try that one.

    Baby shopping is hard work!!

  • I have a subcompact (Mazda2). We decided to get a bigger car. :)

We will take the Britax Agile B travel system with us to the dealership for testing driving and stroller packing!

  • @Econosaurus‌ Thanks! I tried that though. I measured my trunk, then went online and I could only find the collapsed height and length of the stroller. No depth. Lol...maybe targets website just missed that part. ;)

  • So my trunk opening is a whopping 26" x 12", once inside, actual trunk floor is 39" x 24". That's what I get for buying my dream car, a VW convertible bug, lol!

We're still going with my favorite stroller, the Bumbleride Indie, I tried and it does not fit at all. I will probably get the Mountain Buggy Nano as well if I desperately need a stroller in my car.
  • I have a Mazda 3. I'll force stuff to fit! Even if it means putting the stroller in the front passenger seat and Ryan in the back. :D

  • Honestly, this is yet another reason we wore DD so much.  Dealing with the stroller was just a PITA.  Our stroller fits, but the trunk needs to be fairly empty.  Considering we store our shopping bags and a bag of junk for the park in the trunk, this rarely happens.

Now we almost only use our stroller for walks around the neighborhood and travel.

  • Hey I have a The same concern. After long periods of time researching, I have find my self a few hundredths out of budget but the Orbit G3 is a great stroller to have. Look into it, and go directly to the store and rested out. You will love it.

We have this issue as well.  We are ok trunk-wise, but our backseat is tiny.  We have an older model Rav 4 so you would think space is a non-issue, but the back seat is definitely tiny.  I have issues sitting back there and I'm only 5'0". Also, since the seats are removable, they don't allow for a car seat to be in the center.  We are most likely going with the cybex aton 2 carseat as it's footprint is pretty small and there is a bit of extra side impact protection.  I second the City Mini GT.  It folds down pretty compactly.  Also helpful for storage in a small apartment where closet space is at a premium.

  • I bought a chicco stroller off craigslist. It was tricky getting it in my mom's trunk (Chevy Impala) so I know it'll be harder in mine (Chevy Malibu).

My plan is for this stroller to stay at my parents since they live in town & that's where it'll get used the most. I'm going to register/buy the keyfit caddy to keep in my trunk for just in case I need a stroller scenarios.

Oh jeez, I had not even thought about this. I better get home tonight and make sure ours fits in the trunk of the car. I am sure about the car seat because we babysit a friends son sometimes and his car seat is huge.

Had not thought about the stroller though... Thanks OP for bringing this up for those of us being newbs (probably just me).

Edit: Fail at name dropper.... .

  • @dh2613  lol.....its ok,  I am a total noob too....I have had issues fitting things into my trunk before,  so I am glad I went through the trouble of asking the store to let me test it out.   My trunk is pretty big in my Chevy Cruze.....but the trunk opening is not.    I measured it and it was about 17" x  38 "

My stroller will mostly be used from our house, going for walks, jogs, etc.....but if I want to load it up and take it to the zoo, or to garage sales, I better be able to fit it in my car  :)

I am hoping to wear baby when I can, so hopefully I won't need to drag the stroller out too often.   My SIL has a couple "baby backpacks"  she is going to let me try to see if I like wearing baby  :)

  • I have a Scion xA and I thankfully also love small strollers!  I love love love Maclaren Quests, and it fits very nicely and is easy to take in and out.  I had a BJ City Mini for a while and hated it so much, but it did fit if I put it in just the right way.

  •  I had a minivan with kids #3,4 &5-but youngest is 11 and I've been driving a Jeep Patriot for the last few years. I LOVE it but WOW the backseat is narrow.

I tried to put a Graco infant carseat in it and it overhung the seat by several inches. So we eneded up going to BRU and trying out the Chicco Keyfit, which does fit. Then I tried the strollers and will probably get the Chicco Nuevo, because it folds way smaller than the Cortina. I had a graco system in the past and it was great, but now they just don't fit this smaller car.

None of the big huge fancy travel systems or joggers will work for me since they'll take up teh whole back! I have to carry groceries and stuff for all my other kids (mostly the younger 3) so don't have room.

OP, I suggest going to BRU and taking stuff out to your car and literally trying it. I think BBB lets you do that too. I looked up dimensions but until you try it yourself you dont know for sure.
  • @2ndGeneration  I do have a babies r us about a half hour away from me,  its in a busy town though with terrible traffic.  I am trying to avoid going there...but I might have to.

  • I just went to BBB on my lunch break and tried to fit the Britax B Agile in my trunk. IT FIT!! Barely fit, but it laid down flat and fit by a hair. I would have to put groceries/ shopping bags on top of it, but at least I don't have to go find a new car now! By the way - they were totally cool with letting me try it out. A sweet boy even came out to show me how to load it!
