TTC After a Loss

Beta hcg

My levels just dropped from 2,683 a week ago to 147-Is that normally how fast they go down following a loss...And so dramatically? I thought this would take way longer, it has only been 10 days since i miscarried (Two weeks exactly from when the bleeding started) Guess i shouldnt question things, or complain right!

Re: Beta hcg

  • It's a good thing for your levels to go down quickly. It means your body is recovering! To contrast, it took my body 10 weeks for my levels to go down to below 5. And I have retained tissue from my D&C that has to be surgically removed.

I hope this is a good sign for you and that your body goes back to normal sooner rather than later.

  • Mine went from 3600 to 107 in a week after my loss, so yes, sometimes they drop quickly.

Consider yourself lucky that they're dropping so quickly. Hopefully it continues and you're at 0 very soon.

  • Like PP have said, be glad they are dropping quickly.  I'm 7 weeks post D&C and my levels are still positive.  Mine dropped very quickly at first but it's been 3.5 weeks since my level was 82.5 and it still isn't below 5 yet.

  • I had no idea but realize now how much it varies from person to person. It also depends on factors like how far you are into the pregnancy, how high those numbers have climbed. I have heard that at first they fall rapidly but then as they get real low it slows down and takes a little while to hit 0 (Like double the time) which must be extremely frustrating. Is this true?

For example, BethKate, after that how long did yours take from when it was around 100 to get down to 2 ?

HCG levels can be so variable in how they drop, and they can even be different at different times for one person. I found my initial drop was super fast, I went from over 11,000 to about 300 in three weeks, then it took four more weeks to drop that last 300 to zero - so, yeah, it took longer for the last bit of HCG to leave my system than that first 10,000+.  Ultimately, going down is always a good thing, the quicker the better.

I don't know. My doctor had mercy on my poor bruised arms and said that we could stop blood draws at that point unless my period didn't show up in 5 weeks. My period showed up about a week and a half after my betas were 107, and I ovulated right on time that cycle, so my guess is they were at zero by then.
