Nevermind, just saw the working mom day, LOL.
I just want to reiterate that BF week is not to celebrate people who BF. Correct me if I am wrong though.
It's not, but some of the language rubs me the wrong way. Goal #1...thanks for making me feel like an asshole. Obviously, I'm not providing high quality nutrients to my child. Which can be debated if you are eating fucking Oreos all day.
Goal #1 is relating to eradicating extreme poverty and hunger...and breastfeeding can been a tool for those in that situation to use to feed their babies, where they don't have access to or can't afford formula to provide nutrition. I don't think they meant in any way to demean people who formula feed by that goal.
I would think people under that circumstance would know to BF. Or I would hope so.
And under no condition am I believing this website is like "oh hey, BTW, if you can't afford formula, you can totes BF"!

Did you see the article the bump put out for breastfeeding week? It was pretty terrible. Top 10 reasons to BF or something like that.
I did not! DO YOU WANNA INCREASE MY RAGE?
There was a big post on parenting a few days ago. I can't link to the post but the title was:

Here is the list that was posted:
10 reasons why
breastfeeding doesn't suck...
1. You'll feel far less crazy (we promise!)
A study of postpartum mamas found that those who breastfed their babies showed far less anxiety and more mutuality at one month postpartum than those who didn't.
2. It lowers the risk of childhood cancers
One study found the risk of childhood cancer in formula-fed children was 2-8 times that of long-term breastfed children. The risk for short-term formula feeders was 1-9 times that of long-term breast feeders.
3. ...And breast cancer in mamas!
Get this: If women who breast fed for less than 3 months were to stick it out for 4 to 12 months, breast cancer among parous premenopausal women could be reduce by 11%. And if they stayed with it for 24 months or longer, those risks could be reduced by nearly 25%.
4. Smart kids rule
Studies show that breastfed babies have significantly higher IQs by 8 years old than babies who didn't breastfeed -- even after adjusting the stats for differences between groups and Mom's educational and social class.
5. You could save on braces
The longer you breastfeed, the lower the liklihood that baby will suffer from malocclusion -- aka a fancy word for misalignment of the teeth and dental arches.
6. It cuts down on childhood obesity
Breastfeeding has long been tied with reducing the rate of childhood obesity, regardless of Mom's diabetes or weight status.
7. Allergies and ailments are no biggie
Respiratory wheezing, influenza, diarrhea, allergies, and eczema are way less common in breastfed babies -- think about all those trips to the doc you won't have to make!
8. It saves lives -- and government money!
If just 90% of US mamas breastfed exclusively for 6 months, not only would an estimated 900 babies live, but the United States would save $13 billion per year. (Yep, $13 BILLION.)
9. Oh, and it'll save you a ton of cash, too
Believe it or not, formula supplies for just six months can cost upwards of $1,000.
10. You'll fit into your skinny jeans faster!
Breastfeeding burns an average of 500 calories a day. Yes, really. Need we say more?
Ut oh. Don't tell some of the O13 bumpies about this. There will be mass rioting.

This is a really good point. It's world bf week, not national bf week. We might not need it here but it's probably a much different situation in countries without access to clean water, nutritious formula options available, and laws protecting the right to breastfeed.
I just got an UO opinion on our walk that I never would have thought is unpopular! I saw SIX houses the next street over from us that have their Christmas lights up!!! I get that it is harder to take them down when you love in an area that snows in the winter, but come on you have had 8 months!!!
ETA also there were several that were ICICLE LIGHTS! Ajaushashtfvsh!
We have a house in our neighborhood that has Christmas lights on a tree and they still turn on every night! Seriously people if you're going to be too lazy to take them down at least unplug them!!

I understand that the CDC and Dept of Human Health want people to quit smoking. So they've made these very disturbing or graphic ads (on radio, tv, and billboards).
Um...I'm disgusted. Especially when kids are exposed to these. They put up a sign at daycare that more children are discussing these ads and acting them out. Like a kid drew a red circle on his throught and started talking funny to imitate a smoker with a stoma. Seriously?? Is there not a better way to discourage smokers?

There might be. Do you have any suggestions?
You have reminded me (no offense) that I have a possibly UO that it annoys me when people criticize something without offering their own idea. Why must it be someone else's responsibility to come up with the solution? If you're so sure there is a better way, tell us what it is.

Agree with your UO. I used to say this to my students...if you don't like the way something is, change it. BOOM!

----------------- Point we'll taken. At one point they were gonna have ads and more warnings on the packaging itself. Not sure what came of it. What about advertising on the rack displaying the cigarettes?
I am sorry if this was mentioned before. It probably was. But what is going on with this ice water challenge on Facebook? People are dumping ice water on their heads to avoid giving to charity? Does this seem weird to anyone else? My mother did this tonight and my dad cut off the recording at the moment she dumped the ice water.

I took at more as raising awareness for ALS. Now the charity had 'gone viral' and everyone is talking about it. Ppl that wouldn't necessarily have given $$ to ALS might now...where most of the people that dumped water on their heads were prob not giving $100 to charity to begin with.
I am sure it is raising awareness for ALS, which is great. But the fact that people are recording themselves doing this to avoid giving to charity is still bizarre to me.
In the challenge videos I have seen the person is challenged to dump the ice water to avoid donating say $100 to support ALS, instead they donate $10 and challenge 5 more people. If everyone does it and donates their $10, challenges more people etc... The total donated will be so much more than the one $100 donation. I think it's pretty genius.
Thanks for giving me more information. If this results in more support for the disease then I'm all for it. But all I saw was people pouring ice water over themselves to avoid giving money. Fwiw, my mom wound up donating the money anyway.
ok, I am going to answer the CrossFit thing now that I have some time. I am not going to go find it to quote but this is actually something I care a lot about and have gotten flack for over time and since I am depressed tonight I need to rant somewhere. You all may not read it, and that is fine too.
CrossFit has exploded over the past couple years. This means that there has been an influx of gyms, some with better standards than others. Anyone can open a CrossFit gym. There are a lot of people who don't care about form, performance, success of individuals, etc. They only care about $$. CrossFit HQ cannot control what these gyms all do. Bad gyms will eventually die out because people will quit going and the good will remain.
My gym, luckily, is one of the good ones. There are 3 owners, 2 of which are serious military men and are rather high ranking, both in the specialized operations side of the military. They do not accept mediocrity in their own lives and therefore have high standards for everything in their lives, including the gym and every person that walks through their doors. The first rule in our gym is to check your ego at the door, otherwise it will be removed from you. If anyone is EVER compromising good form to try and lift higher weight, they will call them out and make them lower the weight. Form and safety are always the first priority. Any good gym should work this way. If your gym doesn't do this, find a new gym.
Also, CrossFit while pregnant is not only safe, but beneficial. I won't go into it all since I already made a dear diary TL;DR post, but be smart, listen to your body, listen to your doctor and coaches and you can have a safe and healthy AND active pregnancy. If you're interested I have backup on this but I won't bore you all with it now.
That is all, thanks for the rant time. Hugs and love.

The gym I go to has 6 instructors, they are all certified CF instructors. The one of the two owners is a cop and was previously a Marine. So, very similar to your gym. They tout good form before anything else.
CF during pregnancy...I thought my hairdresser was bonkers for doing CF while pregnant, but now that I do it, I could totes see how they would scale it back for her. So, I will be doing it throughout my next pregnancy!
OK, I have a new UO, related to horn-tooting. I side-eye adults who arrange get-togethers to celebrate their own birthday.
Ugh. I totally do this. If I didn't, I would be sitting on the couch alone celebrating....with my husband who didn't arrange anything.
Hells yea. I love when people do the leg work to gather friends for a birthday. Better yet I like to celebrate half birthdays, flag day and Canada day in America. Any excuse for a party is A-OK in my book.

Yep. I throw "hang outs" for myself. If I didn't I would never be to see people and nothing would happen. So I invite people and supply food and drink and we hang out.
