Need help with DD sleeping at daycare

Hello all!!! I've been MIA while on maternity leave and am going back to work on 8/13. Our daycare will put her to sleep on her back. At home she sleeps on her stomach. Our pedi is ok with this bc we still have an apnea monitor we use at night.

I have noticed lately that if I lay her flat on her back she sometimes gets a lot of reflux. To the point that she choking on it. I laid her flat on her back the other day and it had been over an hour since she'd eaten. I looked over and she was choking and gagging. I picked her up right away and it took her a minute or two to come out of it. She's was very upset and seemed scared.

I'm nervous about taking her to daycare. They may not notice if she's doing this. Is there anything I can take there, a sleep positioner maybe to keep her head elevated? Any other suggestions? I'm very close with our director so I plan to discuss it with her also.

Sorry this is so long. I'm just nervous, especially with all we've been through with her.

Here's a cute pic for all your trouble :)

Get a doctor's note so she can sleep on her stomach there?

I actually thought about that. I'm definitely going to ask daycare about it. She has good head control so I feel like I'm less nervous about her sleeping on her stomach than her back

  • Ditto the note or ask them what their suggestions are.  Could she sleep in a swing or RNP?

  • My reflux baby did a lot of bouncy seat sleeping.  Could that be an option?

  • These are all good ideas! I'll see what we can/can't do and go from there. I'd feel better about her sleeping in a bouncer than flat on her back

  • My daycare allows crib mattresses to be elevated with a doctor's note, so I'd go that route. Good luck!

She probably still needs a note for that. We had to have a note for anything other than one their back in a PNP. They technically can't even hold them while sleeping without it.

I'd still give the director a heads up that you are getting a note and what you are thinking for options.

Right, I knew she'd still need the note.  My thinking was more around her saying the baby sleeps on her belly at home but the pedi is ok with it because they have an apnea monitor, which she didn't mention using at daycare.  The pedi may be unwilling to write a belly sleeping note so if she checks with the daycare to find out what options there are with a note, she can discuss those with the doctor specifically.

  • I say that because we had our doctor write a note for epi pen usage and it turns out it didn't say exactly what the daycare needed it to say so I like to ask them first what they need so I can make sure the doctor gives me exactly what I need.  With her luck the doc would write that the baby could sleep in a RNP but if it didn't say swing....you get my drift.
