Re: Where does baby sleep?

  • DS sleeps in his PnP in mine & DHs room. He has his own crib/room but I'm a freak and haven't moved him in there yet.

I transitioned DD into her own room at 6 months. On occasion if she is extremely fussy or if I am very tired she will sleep with us. She ends up in my bed after 6am everyday.

@afolske106 Don't worry this is me too, except I moved the whole crib into our room.

Our room isn't big enough, otherwise that would be the case here too! @deedee1017‌

yep! i have a full sized bed pushed up against our king. there's a little bit of a ledge (about 6" that baby can fall from the king to the full..so it's not a perfect fit, but it's not a full fall onto the bed). sometimes all 4 of us are in the king, sometimes me and the kids are on the full, sometimes it's me plus one baby on the full, h with the other on the king...the full is against the wall, and my husband is on the other side of the king..and he does.not.move. when he sleeps.

How long do you plan on bed sharing with dd?  Is there an age where you feel she will outgrow it?  Will you let her decide when she wants to be in her own bed?  I need to know all things.

most nights she starts out in her own bed (the full size)...and most nights she stays there. but she always flips out if she wakes up MOTN and i'm not there with her..even if she's in the king with dad.. we've tried putting her in her room, with her own full sized, but same thing..always flips out if i'm not there and doesn't let me leave. she still nurses to sleep, and nurses MOTN at least twice a week. i think we will push harder when she actually STTN consistently...

the popular argument is that she doesn't STTN bc i'm with her..but sometimes we put her in her own room, and she still wakes up..so that's not it...

so...TL:DR, when she STTN, is most likely the age we will start enforcing her to stay in her own room. i don't think it's an age where she gets too old...i used to love sleeping with my mom. and did on occasion (once a month? sometimes several nights in a row) up until i was probably 13.

@jennlin‌ How long do you plan on nursing for? Just genuinely curious.

Put him in his crib at 10 weeks which immediately led to him STTN so it was a great choice for us.  Until about 9 months I would bedshare for about an hour in the am (730-830am) to sneak in some extra sleep while he nursed and dozed back off.

ETA: crib is in his room down the hall.

I think you would have to put in her own room consistently and have no improvement in her sleep to be able to dismiss that argument, which I think has some merit.
do you mean many nights in a row, or repeatedly? because we put her in her own room at least once a week, and she'll wake up within 2 hours and tantrum her way back to our room. we did try having her sleep in her own room for a week straight after she turned 2...doesn't end pretty.

  • @jennlin‌ another genuine question, how and when/where do you and DH have sexy time or are you #teamnosex?!? Eta: you must have done it at least once to get DS...?!
we are very firmly #teamnosex currently..but before, we used to do it on the couch or guest room mostly...even before kids, we rarely did it on the bed.

I meant many nights in a row. I mean, you've gotten her very comfortable in a situation where she has you right there whenever she needs anything- to nurse, cuddle, whatever every time she wakes up in the middle of the night. That habit isn't going to be broken the instant you put her down to sleep in her own room. It would take some retraining of her expectations and her ability to soothe herself to sleep. Which I know you don't want and that's fine. You're the one that finds the situation okay enough to leave as is.

  • LO was sleeping in his crib in our room at our apartment.  Now he is back in my bed. We moved and his bedroom is down the hall but it is giving me anxiety.

  • DS and I have a one bedroom apt right now so he has his crib on one side of the room and my bed is opposite it. He starts the night in his crib and usually ends up in bed with me. It's working for now

as long as they want (given i haven't gone insane)...natural weaning age is 4-7 (and it's supplemented in today's society with cow's milk)....i think i'll be at my personal limit at age 4ish though...we'll see how things go.
Has DD had any cow's milk at all?

You say that like it's a bad thing. I'm also bed sharing. I get so much sleep that way. I lay her down by herself to begin with, but 20 minutes later, like clockwork, she's up. She sleeps 10-12 hours in our bed (still sleep nursing several times throughout the night). I would hate life if I had to actually get up and feed her lol
Nope, not a bad thing. Just a way of doing things. My LO sleeps 12 hours with no wake-ups but she's also on formula. Every situation is different.

No, she has intolerant to cows milk. We've tested it on occasion (with cheese, cream) cause they're supposed to grow out of it, but she hasn't yet.

When I was pregnant/low supply she had almond milk.

  • We moved her to her crib after she outgrew her bassinet next to our bed. I think it was around 4 months? She is in her own room now in her crib.

  • he's been in his own room since about 3 weeks old. But I had my bed in there, and while he slept in the crib, I stayed in my bed, and we shared a room until about 7 weeks old. I don't know how the bed sharers do it. He needs an early bed time to not be a monster, and I get up for work at an ungodly hour. We definitely need our own space.

This is us. Last night L was asleep by 5:50. Tonight it was 6. I can't imagine keeping her up later than that, but I suppose if they are used to going to bed later from the get go?

  • I first moved DS to his own room at 2 months, then we had a bad regression mixed with a high fever/infection so he slept in our bed for a while. I just recently put in the work to get him sleeping consistently through the night in his own room again.
  • His own room since day 1. The nights we've had to share a room (hotel normally) have been terrible sleeping nights for us. I hear every sound DS makes and it usually keeps me up all night.
