Constipation question

Hi everyone! I'm new to thebump and i have a question for you ladies i hope you can help. My babygirl is 7 weeks old today and she has been constipated for a couple days and it hurts to see her cry when she tries to go. I've heard a tsp. of prune juice would help her relieve herself. What do you mommys think? Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated by her and me. Thank you!

EBF babies can go several days without pooping. Have you tried talking to your pedi? Start there.

I formula feed. Yes i have called my pedi but they have not called back. The last time i called them about something they actually never called back then either. So i was just trying to see what some other moms have done in this situation incase they never call back.

Thank you amberatkins8 that was very helpful info! If she strains and grunts and cries lightly and nothing happens is that constipation?

I also ff and called after three days of no poop and crying while straining. I was told that they can have an ounce of juice for every month they are old, and to split it over two doses and after their normal feed. I used apple the first time and prune the second. It still took some time but he did poop!

Thank you lilygrace48!! Its hard waiting on a dr to call when you feel like your baby is suffering.

Sounds like you need a new pedi if they never get back to you. Mine calls back within 2 hours even when it is super busy.

We went through this today. I think it was because of a new formula. You can also try rectal stimulation with a thermometer or qtip. He did eventually poop but I knew he was struggling with it because I could see him straining to poo and not be able to.

My DD is having some mild constipation issues and our pedi told us to put 1 tsp of dark Karo syrup into each 4oz bottle (she's ff and on soy formula if that matters) so that is what we've been doing. We are only on day 2 though so can't speak to whether it's a cure all or not but she has pooped today - it's just still a little harder in consistency and how long she is straining than we'd like to see.

We do 1/2 oz prune with 1/2 oz water twice a day but was told by her GI doc I can adjust as needed. Her Prevacid has made her extremely constipated and miserable with that.

Thanks ladies! She finally pooped! Guess i was just worried too much
