6 months old-introducing solids

My babies are 6 months now, son is getting his first tooth already and we are trying to figure out the whole introducing solids phase.
My son seems like he is getting the hang of eating with a spoon A LOT better then my daughter at this point.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help her?
They have an adjusted age of about 5 months so I know she might not be ready yet, she is 4 lbs smaller also.
They have 4 bottles a day (3 at daycare then dinner at 8pm) We have been doing cereal in the bottles at night but I want to try to get away with that and have them eat the cereal instead. They fall asleep pretty much right after their bottles at 8 so not sure when I should feed them the cereal at night.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Still trying to figure this out.

Re: 6 months old-introducing solids

  • She just might not be ready yet. I would just keep trying but not push it too much, she will do it when she is ready. My pediatrician has said that parents can start introducing solids anytime they want to but to remember that babies don't need anything besides breast milk or formula for the first year of life and that regardless of when solids are started that the bulk of their nutrition and calories should still come from breast milk or formula for that first year. So just keep things calm and don't stress.... Your little one will get with the program in her own time.

  • I know, I think she is taking after me already. She will be ready when SHE is ready.
I'm not too worried about it, she is a good eater.
Thanks for your input though @diz1313

  • My daughter was the same way.  She's about a pound smaller than my son and it took her a few more weeks to get the hang of it.  You're right, she's probably just not ready.  Keep trying and one day it'll just click!
  • My first DD hated the rice cereal. She spit it out every single time. They also make a stage 1 oatmeal you could try. Gerber also used to make a stage 1 barley cereal that she liked, but I haven't seen it in a while so I'm not sure if they still make it. She tolerated the barley nicely and loved the fruits and veggies. According to the AAP, you can introduce a new solid every 3-4 days. So I'd try something else or give it a little rest and try again in a week or so. We also started out with solids just once a day and then moved up to adding more "meals" later on. Good luck!
