Anyone not making freezer meals?

Re: Anyone not making freezer meals?

  • This is something that was high in priority on my to do list so it has already been taken care of. My mom and I spent last Friday making 32 meals- things like meatloaf, chicken tacos, a few different pork chop recipes, beef stew, green beans and potatoes. veggie and meat lasagnas, and a few different chicken dishes. These are all meals my family will often eat and I could see how if someone didn't normally care for this kind of food, freezer meals would not really be an option for them.

I have hardly cooked at all during this pregnancy because every time I would, the smells would upset my stomach. We have wasted so much money eating out (4 of us) that I had to make sure something was done to keep that from happening once LO is here.

  • I was thinking of making some freezer meals but knowing myself, realistically this is probably not going to happen.  I might stock up on some frozen veggies and meats instead and throw stuff in the crock pot -- that usually only takes a few minutes in the morning.  Is that realistic to think I'll have time to do that?

  • Like a lot of other people, I am going to have a few basic meals on hand, but our freezer is so small I can barely fit my usual frozen good! Plus we live in Chicago where delivery for pretty much anything we can think of is just a few clicks away if we need it.

I'm a FTM, so I'm new to this whole thing. :) But personally, I think it seems realistic, as long as you have some recipe ideas already in mind when the baby comes. I have created a Pinterest board with lots of easy, healthy recipes and am trying to stock up on the essential ingredients for many of them.
  • We are not. My freezer is already chock full, and I have a bunch of meat already frozen in there. Between our families, we will have meals made for us, I'm sure...plus, the grocery store is 3 minutes away if we need anything in a hurry. I do plan to do a costco trip next week to stock up on pantry items like beans, canned tomatoes, peanut butter and paper goods so we will have rose on hand. Honestly, I'm a FTM, so maybe I'm being unrealistic, but I don't see us struggling to make simple lunches and dinners one LO arrives.

  • Same here. Not making freezer meals because our freezer is just too small and I don't like leftovers. Luckily my husbands family is off the boat from Italy so im expecting lots of great pasta dishes to show up based on what my MIL has told me. Fingers crossed that she is right because I know I won't feel like cooking.
  • I will be making at least two weeks of freezer meals but only because it will be just me (no family to help) and DH leaves for work at 7:00am and doesn't return until 8:00pm. I also have a two and a half DD to think about as well so really that is why I am going to do it. This way I can focus on baby two during the day and not worry about what I am going to make for dinner!!
