Cloth Diapering

Dyer question.

Hey,

Yesterday I prepped washed my cloth diaper for the first time. My question comes to drying in the dryer. We use Dryer sheets ( I didn't put a dryer sheet in with diapers) But I was wondering do the sheet make a build up on the wall of the dryer? And would that be able to get on to the diapers? I feel that I have read something about the sheets causing build up inside the machine and that it would transfer to the diapers.

Re: Dyer question.

  • I can't say with 100% certainty that they cause build up. But it does make since that it could. If your concerned, I would go ahead and clean the drum. I don't know how to do this, but I think you could use hot water with vinager . I would run an empty dryer on hot for a few minutes, sto it them wipe while still hot.

  • I personally stopped using dryer sheets because I could feel that it would get filmy on the dryer, plus I never realized that dryer sheets had as many chemicals as they do. I switched entirely to wool dryer balls and have been happy.

  • We use dryer sheets for half of our laundry. I haven't had any repelling issues and we have been in cloth for 16 months.

  • I have to second ITK, wool dryer balls are AWSOME!i sware they work better than dryer sheets. Clothes dry faster, no static (ever), I find that even if I leave stuff in the dryer for a while they have less wrinkles.
