Oh, 4 year olds.

So my side of the family went on vacation this past weekend, and my cousin and her two little girls met up with us (one is 7, one is 4).  They live in Montreal, so we don't get to see them often (1-2 times a year; the last time being at DH and my wedding last May).

Anyway, the 4 year old says to me this past weekend "so you're married now, when are you going to have a baby?", to which I replied "well, there is a baby in my belly right now!".  She then proceeds to pat and rub my belly and excitedly say "is THAT why it's so big and fat?!"  I said "yep!" and thought that would be the end of it.  However, all weekend she would pat it and rub it and say "it's so BIG and FAT!!" in a very ... loud, grumbly voice (think Agnes from Despicable Me).  She would point it out in my shadow, and tell me that if I got a belly ache that the baby would get one too.  So cute, but my mom (on more than one occasion, because she's an angel) reminded me that it would be more concerning if my belly wasn't big and fat.

LOL @excitedpreggo12 ... lack of filter is definitely the way to put it.  They're so innocent though, which just makes it adorable.  Honestly, I think little ones are the only ones who I'm completely fine with rubbing my belly.

My 7 yr old asked me the other day if the baby was in my stomach acid. I was NOT ready for that type of conversation!

Haha I work in a school and some of the younger kids are fascinated by my belly. After the long 4th of July weekend I had one comment "You are pregnant AGAIN?!" I love how they have no concept of time.

My 6 year old cousin is overboard on the excitement. She:
1) no longer calls me by my name. I exist only as 'pumpkin's mommy.'
2) has a 'how many days' countdown
3) she has requested to be the first person to hold the baby. She says, 'I'll never drop her... But I might put stickers on her face.' Uhm, thanks?

Awww that's cute though.

My almost 2 year old knows that there's a baby in my belly. I mean, she has no idea what that actually means I'm sure, but if you ask her where the baby is she'll pull my shirt up and grin. She also likes to rub my belly and kiss it over and over, then say bye bye and pull my shirt back down. Sometimes she yanks my shirt up, says baby, and does it without being prompted. It's pretty adorable.

So cute! This reminds me that when DH and I went to my parents house a couple weekends ago, my sister told me my 4 year old niece was "so excited to hold baby Audrey" and that she would be "very, very, veeerrrry gentle." I guess she was saying this all week leading up to the weekend. Needless to say she was super disappointed to find out the baby was still in my tummy. She gave me the strangest looks toward my belly the entire weekend. Pregnancy is confusing at 4.

Charlie, my 3-year-old (well, his third birthday is this Thursday - I can't believe it) will occasionally put his face against my belly and yell "HI BABY." 

This is an improvement, since for the first few months after we told the boys, the only thing Charlie would say is "No."  As in: "We're having a baby girl!" "No." "You're going to be a big brother!" "No." Just... no.

My 5.5 year old (James) is much more excited. He's totally fascinated by the whole process, and while we haven't exactly talked about the birds and the bees, he's clear on the "piece of daddoo" and "piece of mommy" came together and made the baby grow. Now he mostly asks me things like "Why is your tummy full of water for the baby?" and "Why do babies come out of women's butts?" The latter we've talked about a bunch of times, but he thinks it's hilarious to say, so he keeps asking it anyways. Sigh.

I told my 3.5 year old that I had a dr. appoint and I would be back later.  When I got home he was sad that I didn't have the baby with me.

When I wasn't showing quite as much, my 3-year-old (who had just turned 3) asked "is that the baby?" while pointing at my boobs. Now he gets that the baby is lower down. But today he rubbed one of my boobs and said, "What are those round things?" Lol. I was totally caught off-guard and said, "Those are my boobies. Sort of like how you have nipples on your chest (he was shirtless at the time), but mommy's look different." Then he yanked down my shirt and said "Can I see your boobies?" Lol...oy.

Before my belly began to show, every time I would see my 4 year old nephew, he would repeatedly ask me, "Did you get your baby yet?".  Too cute.  Like I could go pick up the baby at a store or something.  After some careful explaining that the baby needed more time to grow, I think he finally gets it.  Now, he loves to put his hand on my belly and feel for kicks.  

He is super sweet and has already given me two stuffed animals for the baby (from his collection) and plans on giving her more for Christmas.

Omg hahaha. I'm cracking right up here in the blood lab (waiting the one hour post-orange-drink for my sugar screen). Little kids are the best! I snortled reading about the babies coming out of butts comment. I'm pretty sure people are judging me.

Lol, kids are funny! We just spent a long weekend with DH's sister and her 2 girls. The 2 1/2 year old kept poking my outie belly button (waaayyyy outie thanks to an umbilical hernia caused by my twin pregnancy) and saying 'baby?!' In a very confused tone. Haha I had to draw the line when she kept trying to lift up my shirt to see 'baby'

My 3.5 yo old tells me daily that the baby is getting bigger.  He has also rubbed my boobs and asked if there are babies in there too...um, no!  Although that might explain the size of them...
