Random Tuesday

I'm starting this because I have a funny story!

Last night I was watching workaholics and they all started throwing up....which made me throw up...and then my boyfriend & I were talking about the episode/situation this morning & even thinking about it made me run for the bathroom & vomit! Seriously funny, but this morning sickness can end already.

I cannot get this goddamn doppler to work. It's starting to make me nuts. Am I just too fat?

ETA: I had a dream I was able to get it to work and the heartrate was 163. Like, a VERY specific dream. SO this morning I took that as a sign, tried again, and NOTHING. Just late for work.

My dr told me not to get one.  He said half the time we are looking in the wrong place and it stresses us out.  He said he gets calls all the time about them.  He also said you have to stay really still when you get it at first cause if you move the heart rate will drop and not get an accurate reading.  He told me if I had any concerns to just pop into the office and once of the nurse would do a quick doppler for me.  Would much rather do that.  I remember my mother had to wear the original one like 27 years ago and it was a huge belt that she had to lug around all day.  Nice to know time have changed though.

I plan on making a plinko game for W's 3rd or 4th birthday party. I already told DH that he better be on board.

@Izzy0927, @kkleigh10, @hikerlady & @kismetjess - I'm sorry to say it, but I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems finding the heartbeat and I think I'm at least a week behind all of you.  I put it away for a few days because it was stressing me out.  I thought I heard it behind mine for a few seconds the other day, but it was fleeting.

I have been having sciatic nerve and neck issues and my chiropractor told me for the sciatic nerve there wasn't a whole lot he could do other than adjust me and that I might need to seriously think about a prenatal massage.  Darn.

  • Damn.. yall may prove my DH right after all.

I said the other day I wanted to get a doppler because ive had abdominal surgery in the past (not a csection) and I learned with DS that I dont think I feel movement and kicking as well as most women. (Maybe scar tissue?)

Anyways, I wanted to get a doppler to make sure this LO is ok if I cant feel it move as well and he said it would just make me a nervous wreck and stress me out.

  • With DD, my only pregnancy symptom was a daily nosebleed, 3 months on. Yesterday, I was sitting at my desk, and suddenly my nose feels runny and there is blood on my papers :( I know it's not the worst symptom, but it is so embarrassing when I'm talking to patients and my face starts bleeding!

For dopplers, I think once you have seen the ob/mw do it a times, it's easier because you know where to angle it and how hard to push. I put it right above my pubic and then point down toward my toes and usually find it pretty quickly. For me, it's a lifesaver - I never get anxiety during normal business hours :)

  • Warning - Mine may be a bit sad!!

Last night while loving on one of my fur babies, I found a lump.  My parents lost 2 dogs in about a year to cancer, so I'm freaking out a little.  DH went outside and I looked at her and started crying and told her she wasn't allowed to have anything wrong with her because mommy couldn't handle it right now.  Really ever, who am I kidding??  I've made her an appointment with the vet tomorrow to have it checked out.  I'm hoping it's just a cyst or something.
    :(

  • I must say that I found my doppler more comforting towards the end of my pregnancy. DD was breech, and dropped at 31 weeks so there was virtually no movement from her during that time. It kept me from calling the doctor every day.

Is it round and mobile? Some dogs get lipomas and they are no big deal but scary when you first notice them! Good luck!

  • I couldn't find the heartbeat for a while last night. I was looking in the wrong spot (where it was last time). Well this baby is very active. It was moving around even when I found the hb and stayed really still. I agree with pointing it "down" toward your feet.

Just be patient. Also I listen for the placenta swooshing sound and then stay around that area.

PS: I have plenty of belly fat. Also, I'm 14w.

  • IM BACK!! No more burning up international data trying to mobile Bump... had a great trip, but as always there is no place like home.

Dopplers: Sorry to hear you all are having so much trouble. For me that thing is a life saver. I went the last 4 days of partying out of town, and the first thing I did last night was check on Dolce. I think Im sort of glad I started playing around with it at 7.5 weeks. I was able to get accustomed to all the other sounds like my HB, my artery flow, the wind swooshing of a growing placenta. Also things like how hard to press, where to look, and how to angle the probe becomes second nature... its much easier for me to cue right in now. (For those who havent tried it: check out lots of Youtube videos)

We had a Sheltie that started getting a fatty lump when he was around 3, the vet told us not to operate to try to remove because if it was cancer it could spread. He lived to be 15 even though the mass grew to the size of my husbands fist. I hope it's nothing.

  • @jmcgra06 it's hard to explain...it's kind of wide and flatish.  Hard to tell if it's mobile.  I've felt tumors on dogs before and it doesn't really feel like that, so I'm trying to focus on that right now.  But of course, until we have her checked, I'll be a nervous wreck.

In the beginning I would put the probe up to my heart, just so I could gauge the rhythm and pace of my HB just before searching my pelvic area. It made identifying babies a lot easier and I wasnt confused as to if it was my sounds or not. If you find the swooshing, you are not far off on baby. Just go re-angle the probe slowly instead of moving it around. Best of luck to you all.

  • So I have one of those TMI questions/comments that you can't really ask anyone IRL, you know? Yesterday I ate pretty normally, but my snacks included dried prunes AND a Fiber One brownie bar.  I went to barre class and modified a bunch but it was still a challenging workout. Got home and had shooting pains on both sides of my stomach, sort of under the ribs. I laid on my left side and that helped a bit but it's not like I had to go to the bathroom.....just gas? Round ligament pain? Plain old overdoing it? Gah....pregnancy is weird.

  • I'm wearing maternity jeans for the first time today.

Question-the elastic seems tight! It's under belly style. The actual jeans are my size and fit my butt/thighs, but the elastic band is tight. Is this normal with maternity jeans? Do I just get used to it? Do I just have pants that don't fit right? They're cheaper target jeans, so I'm wondering if that's the problem. Right now size my blump isn't that big, it's kind of squishing on my stomach rather than under. Maybe it's better once my stomach gets bigger and it is truly "under the belly" rather than around my waist?

  • Questions:

Ive been to several engagement parties, and have taken little trinkets for gifts. Like a small plaque that talks about love, or a darling picture frame with a picture I may have personally taken of the couple years prior to them getting engaged. Anyway Ive always just done so because I thought it was cute, without any pressure from the couple.

But I have an invitation to an engagement party on Saturday, and the invite lists the registry and also says that cash gifts are welcomed.

My question is: Is it customary to give a gift at an engagement party? I dont like feeling obligated or pressured to do so... I mean, I know I'll be expected to gift at the bridal shower, then again at the wedding but Ive never received gift suggestions for an engagement party.

DH says stop freaking over it, just split their wedding gift in half. (since we usually give money anyway) He says give them half now and the other half at the wedding.

IDK in mind you are basically telling me to give you money at your engagement party... so you can pay for your wedding; which irritates me and makes me want to come empty handed out of spite.

@Irishcurls last time around I was getting pain under my ribs. I thought there was something wrong with my liver. Apparently it's ligament pain. The ligaments that hold the uterus in place do go alllll the way up there. :)
