vitamins with fluoride?

Around 6 months the pediatrician gave us a prescription for vitamins with fluoride, but Olivia was on antibiotics and refused everything in a syringe after a couple days. To be honest, I kind of forgot about them when she was finally off her antibiotics.

Our state does not use fluoride in our water, which is why the Dr. prescribed vitamins with fluoride. I am in the process of switching pediatricians and am curious to see if the new one will also prescribe it. However, we will not meet the new pedi until next month. Can anyone weigh in? Anyone else's pediatrician prescribe this?

When googling around I found conflicting information about fluoride for babies.

I'm not sure what the point is? I'm really just making this up but the dentist said to get toothpaste w/o fluoride so I'm assuming they want them to stay away from it? Also, our pedi never recommended this.

When they are a year old the dr prescribes vitamins anyway. I'm pretty sure it's the same yucky brown stuff u are talking about.

@bkeane619 and @carawasa Did your pedi recommend giving LO any vitamins at this point? 

Also, toothpaste!  I guess I need to get on that.

The reason there's no fluoride in baby toothpaste isn't because it's not good for baby but is because it's not good to swallow in larger amounts, and babies swallow toothpaste.  We also haven't started toothpaste--mommy fail.

Our water does not have fluoride in it, but I am not currently supplementing. I figured I'd start in Dec if we move back to the US somewhere that doesn't have fluoride in the water.  Our doc has not started her on vitamins, but sometimes the medical care here is a little outdated, so take that with a grain of salt.

I stopped trying. I asked the pedi at his 9 month appointment and she said it was ok especially since he eats a large variety of fruits and vegetables on a regular basis.

Thank you, @lia1303.  We are in the same state, so that's probably why we both got it at the 6 month visit.  I don't feel as bad now that she's not getting them since your pediatrician said it was okay.

thanks @bkeane619!  I was feeling mommy guilt for not trying harder and remembering to start them back up after her antibiotics.

My pedi said that too when I was nursing since he got teeth so early and I wasn't using water to make bottles.  She told me to make his baby food with tap water since our water does have fluoride.

We got the Rx for those vitamins at his 6 mo appointment. They say give it to him daily, but we average about every other day. I think the main purpose of them for us is the iron. I BF (no formula supplementing), so we need to make sure he's getting adequate iron. I feed him lots of leafy greens, and he super hates the taste of the vitamins, so I'm ok giving it to him every other day.
