TTC After a Loss

Trying to make some sense of my miscarriage

Hello Ladies, I had a miscarriage last Thursday and I am trying to make a little sense of it all. Here is my story… I had my first ultrasound when I was 6.5 weeks and everything looked good, baby was reading correctly and heart rate was 124bpm. The following week at 7w4d's I began spotting and has some clotting. I called my fertility clinic and they had me come in for an ultrasound. Again baby looked fine, my baby was reading 7w4d's and had a heart rate of 144bpm and no abnormalities. They did some blood work and my HCG levels were fine as well. They sent me home saying everything seems to be ok and to call back if anything changes. Well 24 hours later in was in contractions and miscarried. I have read many stories of miscarriages and a lot of them start off with  (for example) having a ultrasound at 9 weeks and their baby is reading at 7 weeks. I seem to be opposite to that... My questions are:

1. Has anyone had a miscarriage similar to mine?
2. Does this kind of miscarriage indicate something was wrong with me (hormones)?

Thank you all for taking the time to read this.

Re: Trying to make some sense of my miscarriage

  • I'm sorry for your loss, but you're likely not going to be able to 'make sense' of it all. Miscarriage sucks. :-( welcome to the board.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels to want answers. Unfortunately, we can't tell you why it happened. A lot of us here don't have a reason either. Most miscarriages occur because of completely random chromosomal abnormalities and, sadly, they are very common. ((hugs))

  • I am so sorry for your loss. There is rarely any rhyme or reason to the how's and whys of it all. One loss does not indicate anything necessarily is wrong. I would speak with your doctor and get his or her opinion, but they may not have any real insight as to "why" either. You are in the right place to receive support as you recover, however. Welcome to the board.

  • Welcome to the board. I'm so sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, you're likely not going to get a lot of answers. Many of us don't know what caused our own MC. This question is probably best directed at your doctor who might have more insight into your particular case. I understand the desire for answers, I think it's strong in all of us and one of the most difficult things when grieving the loss of a baby. This is a wonderful place for support - the ladies here are wonderful. I hope you find the support and encouragement you're looking for here.

  • So sorry for your loss. I know that went through about 2 weeks after mine where I was determined to find answers. I googled everything looking for a reason as to why I lost my baby, but I found no answers. Like PP have stated, they are usually due to chromosomal abnormalities. You had no control over what happened. I hope that you find comfort here. Welcome to the board.

    Everyone Welcome

  • My loss was similar to yours and we went ahead and I had my babies and myself tested. My babies all came back healthy but I was diagnosed with heterozygous compound MTHFR which is very much related to the blood clotting issues that resulted in me loosing our girls at nine weeks. Perhaps, if you have a OB willing to do the testing, see if you can do the testing for blood clotting issues! Good Luck! Hugs!!

  • Welcome, so sorry for your loss.  You should prepare yourself for the fact that you may never know what caused your miscarriage.  Definitely speak with your doctor.  I hope you can at least find peace in knowing that it was nothing that you did.

  • I think the hardest thing about loss is that there can be so many unanswered questions.  We are all trying to figure it out and praying and hoping it won't happen again....I do feel for you and can definitely relate w/ wanting to know why?  (((hugs)))   Welcome to the board and I hope you feel reassured that you're def not alone in how you feel.

  • Hello Ladies, thank you so much for all your responses and very kind words. I met with my RE today and went over some things. I do have a fibroid that they are now wanting to remove. It is just a waiting game until I get my period now so they can run some tests. Until then I am going to take my time to heal and come to terms with my loss. Thank you again
