Pre solids: take diaper off and put into unzipped wetbag or pail with pail liner, launder every other day.
Post solids: take diaper off, spray/scrape/plop/swish any present poop into toilet (I prefer spray or plop), put into unzipped wetbag or pail with pail liner, launder every other day.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
We use a garbage can with pail liner, and medium sized wet bags when out.
It may sound counter intuitive, but dirty diapers need airflow or they will stink and be harder to clean. So pails should be left open, and bags unzipped. Wet bags are made from the same breathable-but-waterproof PUL as diapers.
This may sound like a dumb question, but does the unzipped wetbag in the nursery smell bad or is it tolerable? What do you do for the smell? I am CD and this is my first.

Air circulation helps them from smelling. If you close it, it will smell.
And if your diapers smell like a barnyard, then it's a washing issue. You're not using enough soap.
And when you start solids, you'll need to spray the diapers when they really start to smell.
Yep, if they stink it's likely your wash routine. A properly washed diaper should have little to no odor after being peed on. Of course the poo will smell but those should be sprayed first before being put in the bag.
