Re: exercise post...when do you?

I didn't want to hijack the exercise post but seriously where do you find the time to exercise? Who else is with me in this?

My schedule is as follows:
5am - wake up, get ready, tag team with DH to help two yr old and baby get ready, finishing touches on lunch, put bottles in bags, load car and kids
630- leave for daycare and drop off
7am- work starts (this is a hard start non negotiable). Lunch and breaks already used for pumping.
4:30- head home or dc pickup if DH doesn't
5-7 play with kids, nurse, dinner. Sometimes this includes a walk with the kids.
7 - toddler goes to bed
7-9- long attempt to get baby to sleep (see my other post on how you get your LO to sleep)
9- shower, wash bottles, get everything ready for the morning. Pass out from exhaustion and pray baby doesn't wake up before midnight so I can sleep 2-3 hrs.

Whoopsies, this has become a long vent rather than a question?! But I am serious/curious how the exercise is happening. Especially if you have two+ kids?

Re: Re: exercise post...when do you?

  • Wow, you sound like super mom! I will be no help bc I am still on mat leave so my schedule is vey flexible. When DH is in town I workout during the day during one of DD's naps; when DH is traveling I workout at night once DD has gone down for the night (am cycling right now).

I have no idea when I will workout when I start back to work, probably evenings and mostly weekends.
  • Before this baby, I exercised after DS1 went to bed (8pm ish). It is definitely more challenging with 2 kids. The days when DH is around, we go on walks and push both boys in the strollers. My other exercise is usually a dvd and usually only around 20 or so minutes. I do it either when both kids are sleeping (whether a nap or at night) or when I tell DH I need a break to work out. You could definitely squeeze in the 30 day shred during that time you're trying to get the baby to sleep and ask your husband to hang out so you can do it. That's all I can think of!

  • My baby just turned 3 months old and I have worked out ONCE since he was born. It was the day after my 6 week pp appt and I was all gung-ho and my parents watched my baby while I went to the gym. Haven't been back since, which is kind of funny bc MH is a personal trainer! Now that I'm back at work full time, I want to spend every minute I can with DS. And after he goes to bed I have a similar schedule as you - washing bottles, pumping, getting ready to do it all again the next day! Hopefully when (if???) things calm down in the next few months I'll get back into a workout routine.
  • No kids prior to DD and I'm still on mat leave so I either have DH watch her while I go to the gym or utilize the gym daycare.

Once I go back to work I plan on either running during lunch or having DH watch DD one it two nights a week so I can hit the gym.

    Also, you sound like supermom!

  • I'm a FTM, and I work 2-3 days a week, so I work out days I don't have to work. DH and I just started couch to 5k again, and we take turns. I don't have any idea how if do it with a 5day/wk job and 2 kids. As the kiddos get older, fitness can be a family activity. For now, sounds like you're doing great!

  • I get in a 30-40 minute video (insanity or P90x) 2-3x week after kids are in bed (9ish for older two and 10 for baby) and house is cleaned up. Get things ready in am or after workout. I usually stay up till 11:30 or 12 anyway as DH works 2nd and that's when he gets home. Also run on the weekend when we are both home or after work before picking up kids (I m doing C25K so it's only 30 min). I often have to be at work by 7-9 am depending on shift. Let's me get in potentially several days of exercise each week and if I miss a day no biggie just try again the next day! I have to mention my LO is a great sleeper sleeping from 10 pm to 3-5 am so that really helps! Could not do that with my 2nd...she still is my worst sleeper!
  • I went to the gym when DH and I were both off. Now we're both back at work and there's just no way. By the time I get home, do everything that needs to get done and LO goes down, I pretty much pass out. I pump at lunch so I can't even go for a walk then. Maybe when DS is a bit older and everyone is used to the back to work routine, I'll try again.

  • Thanks everyone. This has helped me feel like less of a loser. I have talked with DH about taking the kids for 30 min by himself so I can start T25. We are going to try that once he's done traveling a bunch this month. I just have a hard time taking that away from time with the kids. But I can't complain and not do something. When baby is older and sleeping on a consistent "schedule" I will likely do it early morning.
