TTC After a Loss

Period after a Miscarriage

I know many of us recently miscarried naturally or had a D&C (I have my D&C scheduled for Wednesday :(  ), but for those who are a little further along...
1. How long did it take for you to get your period?
2. Did you miscarry naturally or have a D&C?
3. How many cycles did you / are you planning to wait to start trying again?
4. T&P for you. I am so sorry for the pain you are going through and your loss.

Re: Period after a Miscarriage

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure, as you know, every person is different in terms of how soon they get AF after MC. Mine came 6 weeks later and we waited 1 cycle to TTC...the one cycle thing was the advice of my RE and I know many REs recommend waiting several cycles. I had a D&C because after three weeks, my body did not recognize the miscarriage. I would strongly advise asking your RE their thoughts on these questions as they know your particular situation. Big ((hugs))

Ummmm . . . yay. I think your first sentence is more accurate on the miscarriage board, not on this one.

I'm sorry for your loss but please be aware that there is a very large number of woman on this board who are many months (even years) past their m/c.  I know you did not mean your sentence to come off the way it did but it did rub me the wrong way.

    As far as your questions:

With loss #1, I had a natural delivery at 20 weeks. My period returned at 27 days post-delivery.  Loss #2 was a CP and I became pregnant again the following cycle. Loss #3 was at 9 weeks (sac measured 5). I miscarried naturally a week after I stopped my progesterone supplements.  First period returned at a normal length of time for me.

Some woman have bodies that seem to bounce back to "normal" quickly. Quite a few have to wait a very, very long time for their first period post loss. It is also really common to discover that your body has a new normal.

Right now, get through the next few days. Allow yourself plenty of time to heal both physically and emotionally. Follow your doctor's orders and realize that you can even wait longer.

  • Thank you for your comments. I did check out the https://ttcalblog.wordpress.com/ but read mostly for etiquette. I appreciate you pointing out the polls, I found this very helpful.

buggirl72- I apologize for my posting. I definitely was not trying to be insensitive. I guess I will stick to the miscarriage board and try this board further down the road. I'm sorry, I really wasn't trying to be rude.
  • So sorry for your loss. It seems this varies from person to person and each individual loss. First miscarriage was mmc. Found out at 12w5d and baby stopped growing at 11w0d. I bled fairly light for about 2 weeks after my d&c and got my first period just shy of 2 months later. Second miscarriage was natural mc at 5w3d. I bled for 7 or 8 days (very heavy most of those days) and my cycle was about 8 days longer than normal.
